Through three channels of foreign relations – Party diplomacy, State diplomacy , and people-to-people diplomacy – Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 193 countries; including 6 comprehensive strategic partners (three of whom are permanent members of the United Nations Security Council), 12 strategic partners, and 12 comprehensive partners. Vietnam has trade relations with over 200 countries and territories; and is a member of more than 70 important international organizations and forums. Relations between the Party and communist parties and other political parties in various countries continue to be strengthened and developed. The National Assembly's foreign relations are increasingly proactive and positive, promoting deeper relations with the parliaments and legislatures of many countries and enhancing the position and prestige of the National Assembly in international forums, especially in AIPA and IPU.
Economically, Vietnam's GDP reached US$430 billion, ranking third in ASEAN, among the top 40 largest economies in the world, and among the top 20 in terms of trade and attracting foreign investment; it also ranks 32nd among the world's 100 most valuable national brands. The diplomatic sector has made significant contributions to promoting international economic integration and linkages; actively mobilizing and attracting resources to support new growth drivers, green finance, and investments in energy transition and high technology.
In 2023, many cultural diplomacy activities took place with great vibrancy and diversity, one of the highlights being the connection between Vietnamese culture and the cultural essence of countries around the world. In particular, the ideological, ethical, and stylistic legacy of President Ho Chi Minh continued to be honored in many countries worldwide.
Vietnam is an active and responsible contributor to addressing global issues such as reducing emissions and combating climate change; participating in UN peacekeeping missions in Africa; and deploying forces to assist in earthquake relief efforts in Turkey. By successfully fulfilling many important international responsibilities, Vietnam has earned the trust of the international community and holds many positions, including: Vice President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly; Member of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term; Member of the UNESCO Executive Board for the 2021-2025 term… and has been elected to many important positions in other multilateral mechanisms and forums.
Foreign relations and diplomacy have fostered new strengths and momentum, creating favorable conditions for national development and defense. We have proactively and actively integrated into the international community in an increasingly comprehensive and profound manner, contributing to continuously enhancing the country's international standing and prestige on the international stage.
