Qualcomm Group promotes opening of research and development (R&D) office in Da Nang

DNO - On the afternoon of March 1 (local time), within the framework of a working trip to the United States, Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Ho Ky Minh and the delegation visited and worked with Qualcomm Group at its headquarters in San Diego, California.

This is the second specific cooperation activity between Da Nang and Qualcomm after the direct visit and survey of Ms. An Chen, Senior Vice President of Engineering of Qualcomm Corporation, in Da Nang city on January 11, 2024.

The delegation informed Qualcomm Group that the city is developing two specific policy resolutions to attract overseas Vietnamese intellectuals in the field of microchips and semiconductors to transfer knowledge and technology to relevant parties of Da Nang city and a policy resolution to support training participants and students in the field of semiconductor chips and microchips in Da Nang city.

The city has established the Da Nang Center for Research and Training in Microchip Design and Artificial Intelligence (DSAC) since the beginning of 2024 to prepare resources to welcome and work with businesses and investors to promote the development of these fields in the city.

In addition, the infrastructure at Software Park No. 2 is being completed and put into use so that businesses and organizations can set up headquarters here.

The alliance of universities including: University of Science and Technology, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communications Technology, Danang University of Technical Education (Danang University); Duy Tan University and FPT University Danang was established to enhance cooperation in training human resources in microchip design and artificial intelligence (AI) locally.

Qualcomm Corporation said it is planning to open a Research and Development (R&D) Office in Da Nang, and requested DSAC and the city's Investment Promotion and Support Board to send a focal point to support Qualcomm in opening an AI research office at Da Nang Software Park No. 2 (phase 1) in 2024.

The city pledged to provide maximum support for the establishment of Qualcomm's R&D Office; at the same time, it will cooperate with Qualcomm Academy to deploy a number of short-term training courses associated with Qualcomm certification for human resources in Da Nang.

The two sides also agreed to cooperate in organizing solutions and competitions to find talents, and innovation challenges in the field of microchip design... in the coming time.
