Ter Stegen cuts ties with Barcelona

According to Mundo Deportivo , Ter Stegen's decision reflects the escalating tensions between the German goalkeeper and the Barcelona board. Ter Stegen is angry at the way Barcelona have treated him, especially since the club signed Joan García from Espanyol for €20 million.

Therefore, Ter Stegen's sudden announcement that he would have to undergo surgery and be out for 3 months, instead of 4 months as initially reported, put Barca in a difficult position. Initially, Barca thought that Ter Stegen would have to be out for 4 months if he underwent surgery to treat his persistent knee injury.

Ter Stegen is the "problem" of Barcelona.

The club will then use La Liga regulations, which allow 80% of a player's salary to be used for a long-term injury (minimum four months) to register a replacement player, to facilitate the arrival of new goalkeeper Garcia. However, in a statement released on July 25, Ter Stegen confirmed that he will undergo surgery and will only be out for three months, from the end of July to the end of October.

This means Barcelona are not eligible to trigger La Liga's emergency wage mechanism, which requires a minimum of four months of injury time. Ter Stegen's change in recovery time is a blow to Barcelona, who are already facing La Liga's strict salary cap.

Marca commented that Ter Stegen deliberately declared the injury recovery time to be three months to prevent Barcelona from using La Liga's salary regulations, in order to make it difficult to register new player Garcia.
