Tet Binh Ngo 2026: Abundant supply of goods, stable prices.

(Chinhphu.vn) - According to the Ministry of Finance, during the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the supply and demand of goods were vibrant, but the market remained basically stable, with no shortages or price spikes. The abundant supply helped maintain stable prices for essential goods before, during, and after Tet.

This year's Tet holiday trend shows that domestically produced goods continue to have an increased presence on supermarket and retail store shelves.

The Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 falls in the latter half of February, so the period from the end of December 2025 to the first half of February 2026 is the peak time for preparing goods. The market operates according to annual patterns, but no unusual fluctuations have been recorded. People tend to spend economically and shop wisely.

Supply is abundant, with some product categories experiencing slight seasonal increases.

According to the Ministry of Finance 's summary, before Tet (Lunar New Year), prices of essential consumer goods did not fluctuate unusually. Slight increases were mainly seen in items used for religious ceremonies and holiday consumption such as fresh flowers, fruits, seafood, livestock, poultry, and vegetables; many other items in supermarkets remained basically stable.

Local authorities proactively stockpiled food items. In January 2026, rice prices increased due to high demand; they gradually stabilized towards the end of the month as transactions slowed down. Common white rice was priced at 14,000-20,000 VND/kg; premium rice like ST25 was around 25,000-40,000 VND/kg, with some varieties reaching 43,500 VND/kg. Glutinous rice prices increased by 1,500-2,000 VND/kg due to demand for making cakes and sticky rice dishes. In Ho Chi Minh City, rice prices under the price stabilization program were 5% or more lower than market prices.

Regarding fresh produce, live pig prices increased during the peak period leading up to Tet due to slow supply recovery, then decreased slightly in early February. In Ho Chi Minh City, pork under the price stabilization program is 5-10% lower than the market price. Poultry and beef prices increased slightly; egg prices decreased due to stable supply; vegetable prices were generally stable, with some areas experiencing decreases thanks to favorable weather.

Processed food prices remained relatively stable; jams and candies saw a slight increase due to gift-giving, while sugar, cooking oil, fish sauce, beer, wine, and soft drinks maintained their prices thanks to large supply.

For fresh flowers and ornamental plants, the warm weather before Tet caused them to bloom quickly, limiting inventory and resulting in only a slight price increase. Peach and apricot blossoms were abundant and reasonably priced; prices increased slightly in the days leading up to Tet when the North experienced severe cold. Some localities affected by natural disasters had more limited supply, leading to higher prices than the general average.

Transportation service prices are closely monitored; no price increases or surcharges are allowed without prior approval. Some companies encourage early booking and offer support for empty return trips to reduce the two-way fare difference.

Trading was low at the beginning of the Lunar New Year holiday, but the market gradually warmed up from the 2nd to the 6th day of the holiday.

During the Lunar New Year holiday, supply and demand remained relatively stable. On the first day, transactions were low as people had already shopped and stockpiled; many markets and supermarkets were closed or had limited openings. From the second to the sixth day, the market gradually became more active as distribution channels reopened, and demand focused on fresh food, fruits, and offerings for religious ceremonies. Prices generally did not fluctuate significantly.

In Hanoi , on the 4th and 5th of the Lunar New Year, many markets reopened, and the prices of fresh flowers, vegetables, and meat increased by 15-30% compared to before Tet. In Ho Chi Minh City, on the 2nd, the amount of goods arriving at wholesale markets decreased, and weak purchasing power led to price drops for many items; from the 3rd onwards, prices gradually returned to normal. Similar trends were observed in localities such as Hai Phong, Can Tho, Hue, and Da Nang, with no widespread instances of unreasonable price increases.

Regarding management, the Ministry of Finance established four working groups in January and early February 2026 to inspect, monitor price levels, and stabilize the market; and simultaneously review the assignment and decentralization of price management responsibilities in accordance with legal regulations.

In the fight against smuggling and trade fraud during the Lunar New Year of 2026, the Customs force detected and handled 15 violations; cumulatively from December 15, 2025 to February 20, 2026, 3,705 cases were handled, with an estimated value of 3,267 billion VND; 3 cases were prosecuted, and 19 cases were transferred for prosecution, with seized items including drugs, firecrackers, gold, foreign currency, e-cigarettes, frozen food, etc.
