Mid-Autumn Festival has long been one of the four biggest holidays of the year for the people of Phieng Khoai commune. Right from the beginning of the eighth lunar month, people in the villages and hamlets in the area have been busy preparing conditions to organize the Mid-Autumn Festival for children, together designing and decorating colorful Mid-Autumn lantern models with diverse designs, demonstrating creativity and community spirit.

In 2025, the People's Committee of Phieng Khoai commune organized the Mid-Autumn Festival with many meaningful activities, creating a joyful and useful playground for children, helping them better understand the origin and meaning of the Mid-Autumn Festival, while contributing to preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the nation. Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phieng Khoai commune, said: The highlight that creates the unique characteristics of the Phieng Khoai Mid-Autumn Festival is the parade of Mid-Autumn lantern model cars - a unique cultural feature that has become the "brand" of this borderland. This year, the villages and hamlets in the commune participated in the competition with 15 model cars, the works were meticulously designed by the people, beautiful, with clear themes, imbued with folk colors, associated with typical fruits of Phieng Khoai homeland.
Thanh Yen 2 Village is one of the units that have won high prizes at the Phieng Khoai Mid-Autumn Festival for many years. Continuing that achievement, this year, the villagers brought to the festival a model called "Fire Dragon - Aspiration to fly far". The work conveys a message of national pride - the descendants of the Dragon and Fairy, and is also a reminder to the younger generations to strive to study, practice, and rise up to be worthy of the thousand-year-old cultural tradition of the Vietnamese people.

Mr. Tran Van Chinh, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Thanh Yen 2 Village, shared: With many years of experience in making lanterns, the villagers together came up with ideas, designed, and constructed for nearly a month. The model is 6 meters long, 3 meters high, the dragon head can sway, spray smoke and fireworks, creating a lively and attractive effect.

At Hang Mon 1 village, people brought the model "Light of solidarity - Vietnam reaching out to the world", a subtle combination of folk culture and modern elements, creating an impressive and meaningful work of art. Mr. Truong Manh Vi, Hang Mon 1 village, informed: The front of the car is a 5-pointed star - a symbol of dreams, beliefs and hopes for a bright future for children. Behind the star is a moon printed with a map of 34 provinces and cities of the country after arrangement and merger, along with the image of the two archipelagos Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, expressing the aspiration for unification and integrity of the country. The back of the car is a lantern and a phoenix-shaped lantern, expressing wishes for prosperity, happiness and longevity, the aspiration for an increasingly prosperous Vietnam, a prosperous people, and a prosperous country forever.

On the full moon night of August, Phieng Khoai is brilliant with the light and shimmering colors of hundreds of giant Mid-Autumn lantern models. The sound of festival drums, the cheers and the cheerful smiles of thousands of locals and tourists have created a vibrant and warm festival picture. From all the villages, hamlets, even neighboring communes such as Yen Son, Long Phieng, Mid-Autumn lantern models with all colors, shapes and sizes also converge here, lighting up the border festival night.

Mr. Le Trung Quan, a tourist from Hanoi City, excitedly said: I find the Mid-Autumn Festival atmosphere in Phieng Khoai very joyful and bustling, many Mid-Autumn Festival lantern models are designed very uniquely and meaningfully, showing the creativity and passion for traditional cultural values of the people here.

Not only a playground for children, the Phieng Khoai Mid-Autumn Festival has also become a cultural festival of the community, where each person expresses their passion for creativity, pride and love for their homeland. The light of the giant lanterns not only makes the full moon night more brilliant, but also ignites the faith, solidarity and aspiration of the people in the border areas of the Fatherland.
