Thach Chau reaches the finish line of a model new rural area thanks to good use of resources

Perseverance, high determination, good use of external resources, promotion of internal strength, and creative ways of doing things have helped Thach Chau commune, Loc Ha district (Ha Tinh) reach the finish line of a model new rural area.

Localities in Thach Chau commune are focusing on renovating village roads and communal houses to prepare for the new spring. The joy is multiplied when, up to now, 11/11 villages have been recognized as model new-style rural residential areas, and the commune has just been recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as meeting model new-style rural standards.

Mr. Le Hong Hue - Head of Hong Lac village excitedly said: “To turn the poor countryside into a livable countryside, 188 households/830 people in the area always take care of production and are ready to contribute to the common cause. Thanks to that, people have had a prosperous life with an income of 58 million VND/person/year, their spiritual life is taken care of. The infrastructure system, residential houses and other welfare works are invested in spacious, synchronous and beautiful. In 2020, we achieved the standard of a model new-style rural residential area, have now completed the criteria for a smart residential area and are waiting to be recognized”.

Starting from a purely agricultural commune, in the journey of building a new rural area, Thach Chau always identifies improving livelihoods, income and improving people's lives as the key issue, the foundation to create momentum for the construction of the homeland. Accordingly, the whole commune has focused on diversifying occupations, building models, linking the development of key products (peanuts, rice, shrimp, mussels...) with restructuring crops, livestock and developing modern agricultural production. The commune also focuses on promoting the advantages of its central location to develop trade, services, industry, and handicrafts, forming a diverse, comprehensive and modern economic picture.

Chairman of Thach Chau Commune People's Committee Le Van Thong excitedly said: "Developing production and business is always a top priority, so the annual agricultural cultivation area of ​​the commune always reaches over 705 hectares, forming many concentrated areas, mechanization reaching 95%, developing livestock, having many effective economic models, 82 hectares of aquaculture each year generating an income of 7 billion VND. The commune also has 1 craft village, 9 cooperatives, 51 masonry teams, 87 processing facilities, 18 motor vehicle repair facilities, 25 carpentry workshops, 31 mechanical workshops, 814 service businesses... operating stably, creating jobs for nearly 3,500 local workers, helping the budget revenue in recent years reach over 30 billion VND".

Thanks to production development, the average income per capita of Thach Chau commune reached 56.3 million VND/year, the poverty rate was only 1%. Life is increasingly prosperous, people have a high sense of responsibility in implementing programs, since focusing on building new rural areas (in 2012) until now, Thach Chau has mobilized 200 billion VND from the people (cash, working days, land donation, property donation...) and support from children far from home to build new rural areas.

Along with internal resources, over the past 12 years, Thach Chau has taken advantage of the attention and support of superiors to apply and integrate programs and projects to have an additional 300 billion VND to implement the criteria. In just 2 years of building a model new rural area (2021 - 2023), the locality has mobilized about 90 billion VND to "improve the quality" of the criteria, of which the commune budget and people contributed 82%.

Thanks to the good development of resources, Thach Chau has always been at the forefront of the new rural construction movement of Loc Ha and is the most prominent highlight in the whole district. In the area, there is a system of 4-level schools built large and beautiful, with leading quality in the entire education and training sector; all roads from alleys to the commune axis are hardened, 6-8m wide, with flower beds, ornamental trees, electric lines for lighting, and flags; the commune headquarters, commune halls, meeting halls and sports areas of 11 villages are spacious and have spacious campuses; clean water pipeline systems are installed to every house...

Chairman of Thach Chau Commune People's Committee Le Van Thong added: “The grassroots political system and the people of Thach Chau have been persistent, determined, creative, and flexible in linking the construction of new rural areas with socio-economic development, improving the lives of the people. In the process of building new rural areas, we have promoted the democratic spirit of "People know, people discuss, people do, people inspect, people benefit" to maximize the mobilization of internal resources. When implementing, the Party Committee and the government regularly stay close to the villages and people to promptly urge, guide, and remove difficulties and obstacles. The projects, tasks, goals... are built specifically, close to reality, with appropriate roadmaps, and implemented with focus and key points".

Thach Chau has always been a pioneer in the movement to build new rural areas when in 2014 it was one of the first communes in the province to reach the finish line; in 2020 it was the first commune in the district to reach the advanced standard; and currently it is the only commune in the district to reach the model new rural standard. To achieve such results, in addition to the attention, direction and support of superiors, it is also the relentless efforts, flexible and effective participation in mobilizing resources of the Party Committee, government and people. The success of Thach Chau will be good lessons and valuable experiences for other localities to learn and follow.
