Cybersecurity challenges in the era of digital transformation.

On the afternoon of August 3rd, the Southern Branch of the Vietnam Information Security Association (VNISA Southern Branch), in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications, held a press conference to provide information about the 2023 Information Security Conference and Exhibition with the theme "New Technologies and Cybersecurity in the Era of Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence".

The conference and exhibition took place on August 25, 2023, at the GEM Center Convention Center (8 Nguyen Binh Khiem Street, District 1). The conference focused on information technology and cybersecurity in the deployment of digital transformation applications to state management agencies at the central level and in the southern provinces and cities.

Mr. Ngo Vi Dong, Vice President of the Vietnam Information Security Association (VNISA), stated that information security and safety issues are becoming increasingly important and urgent.

According to the VNISA survey in the South, 69% of surveyed organizations have a dedicated information security department; however, many organizations have a limited number of personnel. Approximately 50% of organizations need to implement training programs for their information security management team, including defense techniques, anti-attack techniques, and techniques for protecting system and application security.

Meanwhile, 29% of the surveyed organizations reported that cybersecurity costs accounted for more than 5% of their IT expenses. This result is higher than the 2022 survey and is a positive sign that organizations are investing more in information security.

Mr. Ngo Vi Dong, Vice President of VNISA, stated that information security and cybersecurity are becoming increasingly important and urgent. Besides traditional cybersecurity issues, the conference and exhibition also focused on new and pressing issues such as protecting industrial systems and critical infrastructure, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in fields such as computer vision, malware detection, and high-tech fraud.

According to Ms. Vo Thi Trung Trinh, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications, the current challenge is ensuring information security when applying new technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning to life. While deploying a new technology or service in cyberspace offers benefits and conveniences, it is crucial to be vigilant against the possibility of the technology being exploited for fraudulent purposes.

2023 was marked by an acceleration of the digital transformation trend; however, this process also led to new strategies, new technologies, and new risks. The deployment of new technologies and services in cyberspace, while offering benefits and conveniences, requires vigilance against the potential for exploitation for fraudulent purposes. Raising public awareness is therefore crucial.

According to the organizing committee, in addition to the conference and exhibition, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications, VNISA Southern Region, and other units will organize many practical activities from now until the end of the year, such as: sharing management experiences in the field of information security, conducting practical information security drills, and organizing the ASEAN 2023 Student Information Security Competition…
