Anthony Hudson is the new head coach of the Thai national team. |
On the afternoon of October 22, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) announced that Anthony Hudson will take over as head coach of the national team. He replaces Japanese strategist Masatada Ishii, who resigned on October 21.
Hudson, 44, is an English coach who previously served as the Technical Director of the FAT (Football Association of Thailand). His appointment is considered a logical move by experts, given his experience working in Thailand and his understanding of Southeast Asian football.
Previously, Hudson managed BG Pathum United, helping the team achieve a win rate of over 58%. This achievement is considered a crucial foundation that earned him the trust of the FAT (Football Association of Thailand).
On the international stage, Hudson previously led the New Zealand national team to the play-offs for a place in the 2018 World Cup, and also served as interim coach of the US national team from 2022 to 2023. His experience at both club and national team levels is expected to help him quickly integrate and shape the style of play for the "War Elephants".
According to the plan, Hudson will make his debut when Thailand plays a friendly match against Singapore on November 13th. Following that, the team will travel to Sri Lanka on November 18th for a qualifying match for the 2027 Asian Cup.
The final qualifying match against Turkmenistan at home on March 31, 2026, is seen as the first crucial test for Hudson.
