Tourists visit the Grand Palace in Bangkok.

The Thai Ministry of Tourism said on September 19 that the tourism situation in Thailand is showing signs of improvement; the government's visa exemption for Chinese visitors will boost this sector.

International arrivals are expected to increase as the tourism industry enters its peak season this week, with weekend getaways in potential destinations such as Malaysia and Japan.

Thailand's new government plans to boost tourist arrivals with measures such as visa exemptions for visitors from China and Kazakhstan from September 25 to the end of February 2024.

Tourism is a major driver of Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy . Bangkok expects to welcome 28 million visitors this year, with the city aiming to attract 5 million Chinese tourists.

In 2019, Thailand welcomed a record 39.9 million foreign tourists, including 11 million from China.
