Thailand returns to FIFA top 100, Vietnam team is further and further away

FIFA announced the rankings of men's football teams in September 2024, Vietnam team dropped one place and ranked 116th.

On the evening of September 19, FIFA updated the detailed rankings after 2 matches in the September FIFA Days. The Vietnamese team lost both matches against Russia (0-3) and Thailand (1-2) at My Dinh Stadium. Specifically, the Vietnamese team was deducted 2.14 points after losing to Russia on September 5 and was deducted another 4.5 points after losing to Thailand on September 10. In total, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team lost 6.64 points. Thus, the Vietnamese team dropped 1 place to 116th with 1,161.38 points. So after 3 months in charge, coach Kim Sang Sik brought the Vietnamese team back to its old position in June 2024. However, Mr. Kim's goal is not the position on the FIFA rankings. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) assigned him the target of bringing the team to the final of the ASEAN Cup 2024 in December. Referring to the important tournament at the end of the year, neighboring Thailand has increased by 1 place and returned to position 100 on the FIFA rankings after the June 2024 period. Thailand has 1,223.06 points. Notable in this ranking period is the Brunei team. They increased by 7 places to position 183 after 2 victories 1-0 and 3-0 both against the Macau team. Brunei became the team with the most growth this period. Meanwhile, the Qatar team dropped by 10 places and is currently ranked 44th. The Australian team caused the most shock when it was deducted the most points in this period with 26.99 points due to poor performance in the World Cup qualifiers. The world's leading team is still Argentina. The FIFA Top 10 has no new names when the 10 teams only changed positions with each other. A total of 184 matches took place at the September FIFA Days.
