Continuing the working trip, on January 6, the delegation of southern provinces and cities, organizations, businesses, and press agencies visited, encouraged, and wished a happy New Year to officers, soldiers, and people on Tho Chu Island, Tho Chau Island Commune, Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province.
Tho Chu archipelago is located in the southwestern sea of our country, about 100 km northeast of Phu Quoc island, about 200 km northeast of Rach Gia city, about 140 km southeast of Ca Mau cape, about 40 nautical miles southwest of the international shipping route. Tho Chu archipelago has 8 large and small islands including: Tho Chu island, Hon Kho, Hon Nhan, Hon Xanh, Hon Tu, Hon Cao, Hon Cai Ban and Hon Da Ban. In particular, Hon Nhan is point A1, one of 12 points on the baseline to determine the sea area of our country.
Of which, Tho Chu Island has the largest area, about 12.7 km². On the island, there are armed forces units such as: Regiment 152/QK9, Tho Chau Border Guard Station, Coast Guard Station No. 4, under the Coast Guard Region 4 Command, Battalion 1, under the Engineering Brigade 25, Military Region 9, Radar Station 610, under Regiment 551, Naval Region 5 Command and Tho Chau commune government.
Currently, Tho Chau island commune has 508 households with 1,832 people. The islanders live mainly on aquaculture, seafood exploitation and trading. The political security situation, social order and safety in the area are basically stable. In 2024, the People's Committee of the commune focused on directing and operating all aspects of work according to the program and plan and achieved many important results. The socio-economic situation continued to be stable. Social security work, care for policy beneficiaries and meritorious people were focused on and implemented. National defense and security were maintained, organizing and implementing well the peak periods of attacking and suppressing crimes and social evils, ensuring social order and safety in the commune. The work of receiving people, handling complaints and denunciations was basically timely and in accordance with policies and laws.
Immediately after the ship docked at Tho Chu Island, the delegates of the delegation respectfully offered flowers and incense at the Uncle Ho Temple and commemorated the heroic martyrs and people murdered by the Khmer Rouge regime. Here, the delegates observed a minute of silence and burned incense at the altars to express their deep gratitude for the great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh, as well as the irreplaceable sacrifices and losses of the previous generation.
Visiting and presenting gifts to the government and units stationed on the island at Radar Station 610, the delegation's representatives kindly encouraged and learned about the living conditions of the officers and soldiers stationed on the island. The gifts carrying the warmth of the mainland were sent to the soldiers on the remote island as words of encouragement and wishes for a peaceful, happy and warm new year.
