Thanh Hoa supports relatives in finding martyrs

On the first day of the second phase of collecting and taking DNA samples from relatives of martyrs to identify martyrs, initially the police force in Thanh Hoa province collected 1,153 DNA samples from relatives of martyrs.

Thanh Hoa has more than 15,000 martyrs buried in martyr cemeteries nationwide, including more than 7,000 graves of unidentified martyrs.

From May 12 to 16, 2025, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police coordinated with the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order, the Ministry of Public Security and GeneStory Company (the unit directly collecting samples) to collect 933 DNA samples of martyrs' mothers and one case of a close relative on the martyr's maternal side, to serve the identification of relatives of martyrs whose information has not been identified.

The results of scientific examination and analysis, compared with the Genbank data provided by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine and the data of martyrs' relatives collected by the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order (Ministry of Public Security), have initially identified two martyrs from Thanh Hoa whose DNA samples match the remains of martyrs buried at Duc Co cemetery (Gia Lai).

Continuing to implement the direction of the Ministry of Public Security and the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province on implementing the Project to identify the remains of martyrs with missing information through DNA testing, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police closely coordinated with the Department of Home Affairs, departments, branches, organizations, Party committees and local authorities in sharing, collecting and updating information on martyrs, and implementing the collection and receipt of DNA samples from relatives of martyrs in 166 newly established communes and wards.

Police units and forces in Thanh Hoa province have fully prepared equipment and facilities, deployed many working groups to collect DNA samples in concentrated areas according to administrative areas and directly go to each family of the elderly to collect DNA samples; update DNA information into the National Population Database, ensuring the work of comparing, analyzing, and concluding information about martyrs and their relatives scientifically, accurately, and effectively.

According to the plan, from July 3 to July 20, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police will simultaneously collect DNA samples from relatives of martyrs, striving to successfully collect and complete 35,626 DNA samples, update data into the Gen Bank and compare, contrast, and find the identities of martyrs whose names are still unknown.

Also on this occasion, localities in Thanh Hoa province supported 1,142 households of meritorious people and their relatives to complete construction, repair, and improve housing difficulties.
