Born and raised in a farming family, Duc understands the difficulties and hardships of the people here. Witnessing many friends having to leave their hometown to work far away, Duc always wondered how to develop the economy right at home.
Through research and study, Mr. Duc realized that Boer goats (a breed of goat originating from South Africa) are easy to care for, have few diseases and gain weight quickly, bring high economic efficiency, and have great potential for economic development. After a period of careful study, Mr. Duc decided to choose to start a business and develop the family economy with the Boer goat farming model.
In 2022, with the accumulated capital and support from his family, Mr. Duc boldly invested 70 million VND to build a barn and buy 10 breeding goats. The Boer goats were raised by Mr. Duc in completely confined conditions with a well-invested barn system.
The young man has actively learned from experience, visited and learned from other households to develop an effective goat farming model. The barn system invested by Mr. Duc is solid, high, clean, ensuring warmth in winter, cool in summer to help goats grow well. Mr. Duc regularly cleans, keeps the barn airy, clean and has a stable temperature to help limit diseases in goats.
Mr. Duc has taken advantage of his family's garden land to grow elephant grass to proactively ensure food sources for goat farming. In particular, elephant grass has high nutritional content, is palatable to goats, especially when mixed with by-products such as corn and bran, helping goats grow quickly, giving high yield and firm meat.
Mr. Duc said: “Taking care of a herd of goats is quite easy if you apply the right techniques and have an understanding of their nutritional and health needs. Farmers need to be careful in choosing food, proactively prevent diseases, and regularly clean the goat barn. At first, when I had no experience, I was also worried and encountered many difficulties. However, with perseverance and hard work, I gradually gained my own experience and developed a herd of goats that brought in a decent income for myself.”
A Boer goat gives birth to an average of 2 litters per year, each litter of 2-3 kids. Kid goats raised from 6-8 months old weighing 25-35kg can be sold for about 130,000 VND/kg. After 3 years of perseverance and effort, Mr. Duc's goat farming model has gradually stabilized and developed. From the initial 10 breeding goats, up to now, he has developed a herd of goats with 300m² of barn area, more than 100 commercial goats, including 40 mother goats.
The goat farming model of young Tran Dang Duc is one of the effective economic development models for young people in the locality. Many young people come to visit and learn from the model for reference, to find direction for starting a business.
