True love, young man accepts the challenge of 3 years of unpaid work
Unable to bear seeing his beloved daughter love a poor servant, the landlord Ly made an outrageous request: The “noble son-in-law” must work without pay for 3 years and must not make any mistakes. However, when the 3-year trial was about to end, the landlord turned around and made a fool of himself…
These are the recent developments in the story “The Upright Boy” in the series Fairy Tale World broadcast on THVL1. In the peaceful countryside setting, the life story of Chanh – an orphan boy (played by actor Duong Hieu Nghia), gentle and talented – becomes a symbol of the will to live and sincere love.
Chanh works for the landlord Ly (actor Cao Hoang), a rich but stingy and calculating landlord. When he hears that Chanh has been offered a salary twice as high elsewhere, Mr. Ly is afraid of losing his good worker and is full of calculations.
Things get more intense when Chanh develops feelings for Thien Y (actress Mai Chi), a beautiful, kind young lady and the only daughter of a landlord. Conquered by her sincerity and the simple gifts made by Chanh, Thien Y soon devotes all her feelings to him.
However, that love met with the father's tacit opposition. Not accepting that his daughter loved a poor man, and not willing to lose a good worker, Mr. Ly showed his displeasure, but pretended to accept and set a harsh condition: Chanh had to work without pay for 3 years, and even the slightest mistake could result in the cancellation of the engagement.
Because he loved Thien Y, Chanh accepted the unfair deal, not knowing that it was just a trap. Near the wedding day, the greed of the landlord Ly arose. He wanted to marry his daughter to a family of more equal status. To delay his promise, he used illness as an excuse, forcing Chanh to go into the forest to find hundred-year-old agarwood, an extremely rare medicinal herb, as the final condition for marrying Thien Y.
