The goal set by the Vietnamese sports delegation is to strive for 12-15 spots at the 2024 Paris Olympics. As of yesterday, Vietnam only had 4 Olympic spots secured by Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming), Nguyen Thi That (cycling), Trinh Thu Vinh, and Le Thi Mong Tuyen (shooting). From now until the deadline for finalizing the list of participants for the 2024 Paris Olympics (June 30, 2024), Vietnamese sports hope to secure more spots in badminton, gymnastics, athletics, shooting, weightlifting, taekwondo, boxing, swimming, judo, archery, etc.

Despite winning the prestigious gold medal in shooting at the 19th Asian Games, shooter Pham Quang Huy has yet to realize his goal of qualifying for the Paris Olympics. Therefore, he is focusing his training efforts on seizing one last opportunity at the World Championships in Brazil this coming May.
From February 11th to 18th, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, along with Vietnamese national team members Tran Hung Nguyen, Pham Thanh Bao, Nguyen Quang Thuan, Ngo Dinh Chuyen, and Nguyen Hoang Khang, will compete in Qatar at the World Swimming Championships, which also serve as the qualifying round for the 2024 Paris Olympics. After securing an Olympic spot in the 800m freestyle, Huy Hoang is aiming for the next qualifying spot in the 1500m freestyle. Meanwhile, Pham Thanh Bao is striving for qualification in the breaststroke events, while Tran Hung Nguyen and Nguyen Quang Thuan are seeking opportunities in the individual medley.
The Vietnamese weightlifting team is also busy preparing for the Asian Championships in February and the World Championships in April to compete for Olympic qualification. Trinh Van Vinh is the most highly anticipated, currently ranked in the top 10 in the world in the 61 kg weight class. In boxing, Nguyen Thi Tam, Ha Thi Linh, and Nguyen Van Duong also have two opportunities to qualify for the Olympics, competing in the qualifying rounds in Italy (February) and Thailand (March). In badminton, Nguyen Thuy Linh, currently ranked 22nd in the world, is virtually guaranteed an Olympic spot in the women's singles. In taekwondo, Truong Thi Kim Tuyen continues her training in South Korea, combined with competitions in Canada and the US, to pursue her Olympic qualification. In gymnastics, Nguyen Van Khanh Phong is the most highly anticipated and is getting closer to his goal, regularly participating in international competitions that award Olympic points.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong noted that the Department of Sports and Physical Education, as well as the National Training Centers, must give special priority to athletes currently participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics, ensuring they have the best physical and mental condition to compete with peace of mind and confidence.
Previously, the Department of Sports and Physical Education reviewed and selected 30 talented athletes for special investment to compete for a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Mr. Dang Ha Viet, Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Education, said that the Paris Olympics is a major sporting event and the most important task for the sports sector in 2024.
