Konate could follow Trent to Real Madrid. |
Liverpool's internal affairs were shaken again when midfielder Ibrahima Konate proactively expressed his desire to join Real Madrid. According to Sky Sports , the French star gave the green light to the Spanish Royal team and is ready to wear the "Los Blancos" shirt on a free transfer when his contract with Liverpool expires next summer.
What is worrying for "The Kop" is that the negotiation process between Konate and the club is almost at a standstill. Previously, the British media revealed that the 26-year-old midfielder was not satisfied with the basic salary offered by Liverpool, because most of his income is tied to performance-based bonuses.
Meanwhile, Konate wants a salary worthy of his position as a mainstay, especially when he is at the peak of his form.
This is not the first time Real Madrid has taken full advantage of the market for players out of contract. Before Konate, "Los Blancos" recruited a series of famous stars on free transfers such as David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger and most recently Kylian Mbappe. Real even bought Trent Alexander-Arnold outright early after the defender decided not to renew his contract with Liverpool.
With only one year left on his contract, "The Kop" are forced to consider how to keep Konate with a better offer, or sell him this summer to avoid losing him for free. Real is in no hurry, they are still patiently waiting for another free deal following the familiar scenario.
