Whether successful or not, all have their own value, adding motivation for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team players to aim for the next goal.

Opportunity to gain experience and gain experience
Before Lunar New Year 2025, Vietnamese women's volleyball has two notable players competing abroad: Tran Thi Thanh Thuy at Gresik Petrokimia Club (Indonesia); Tran Thi Bich Thuy at GS Caltex Club (Korea).
Among them, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy is the number 1 female hitter of Vietnamese volleyball, and is also the athlete with the most seniority playing for foreign clubs including: Bangkok Glass (Thailand), Attack Line (Taiwan, China), Denso Airybees, PFU BlueCats (Japan), Kuzeyboru (Türkiye) and Gresik Petrokimia (Indonesia).
It is worth mentioning that Thanh Thuy's farewell to the Indonesian team took place when the contract between the two sides had only been implemented for 1 month due to a knee injury. Thanh Thuy joined Gresik Petrokimia in early December 2024, after ending her contract with Kuzeyboru (Türkiye) early in November 2024. She and her teammates played 7 matches and only won 2 matches, ranking 5th/7th on the rankings. Meanwhile, Gresik Petrokimia's goal is to enter the top 4 teams after the qualifying round. Therefore, Gresik Petrokimia decided to sign a contract with the 1.97m tall American striker Julia Sangiacomo.
Before that, Thanh Thuy only played for Kuzeyboru Club (Türkiye) for 2 months. These were two unsuccessful trips abroad, but Thanh Thuy still made history in Vietnamese volleyball by becoming the player who played abroad 6 times.
Meanwhile, middle blocker Tran Thi Bich Thuy is having a smooth journey at the Korean National Volleyball Championship in the GS Caltex Club shirt. This is the first time this player has played abroad. Appearing and playing for the Korean capital team in the second half of the 2024-2025 season, the 25-year-old middle blocker has adapted quite well and has helped GS Caltex improve its ranking on the rankings. Before that, this team had 14 consecutive losses and was at the bottom of the table. Head coach of GS Caltex Club, Lee Young-taek, has given many compliments to this rookie from Duc Giang Chemical Club.
According to General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation Le Tri Truong, the stories of Thanh Thuy, Bich Thuy... also show that the path to competing abroad is not paved with roses. There is success and of course there is failure. But that is normal and athletes must clearly identify it. The most important thing is their choice when competing abroad, in a place where they can rub shoulders and accumulate experience.
Support for the team
In 2025, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will continue to be busy with its international competition schedule. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team will participate in 6 tournaments including the AVC Challenge Cup, the World Championship, SEA V.League (2 stages), VTV Cup and SEA Games 33. To prepare for this, human resources are the top priority.
Coach of the Vietnamese volleyball team Nguyen Tuan Kiet said that, besides the generation of players who are in their prime, competing domestically and have left their mark in recent times such as Bich Tuyen, Nguyen Thi Trinh, Tu Linh..., the Vietnamese women's volleyball team also hopes that the faces playing abroad will accumulate experience, expertise, and be ready to contribute to the team in the coming time. Although her two overseas trips were not as successful as expected, Thanh Thuy is still an excellent striker of women's volleyball. Thanh Thuy's experience in the world's top volleyball tournaments such as Japan or Türkiye is very necessary for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. At this time, the most important thing for Thanh Thuy is to recover from injury and regain her form. As for Bich Thuy, with the experience of competing in a high-level environment at the Korean National Volleyball Championship, it is hoped that she will contribute more to the national team as well as the Duc Giang Chemical Club.
According to General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation Le Tri Truong, creating conditions for players to compete abroad is the direction of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and many clubs. Thai women's volleyball is a typical example of the effectiveness after many years of investment in women's volleyball. That is, they send players abroad to compete to achieve good skills, then return to the national team to compete, achieving high results.
“By creating conditions for players to go abroad as they are now, Vietnamese women’s volleyball is probably learning from such an effective approach. The Vietnam Volleyball Federation and clubs also need to build relationships and connections to find more opportunities for players to go abroad to develop their skills,” said Mr. Le Tri Truong.
