Apple’s latest iPhone models have recently received some negative reviews such as being prone to scratches, camera errors when taking strong LED photos, and fast battery drain. Recently, some early users have encountered problems with unstable Wi-Fi.

Affected customers have reported frequent Wi-Fi disconnections on their iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air, leaving hundreds of comments on MacRumors Forums, Reddit, and the Apple Support Community over the past four days. It's unclear how widespread the issue is.

Specifically, they said the Wi-Fi would disconnect for a moment and then reconnect when they unlocked their iPhone. Since Apple's CarPlay system in cars relies on Wi-Fi connectivity, this issue could also cause CarPlay to disconnect.

Many users have also reported that the issue occurs when wearing a paired and unlocked Apple Watch, but it remains to be seen whether this is a permanent issue.

Experts have yet to determine whether the problem is hardware or software. Usually Apple can fix these types of bugs through software updates, but there is no information that the company has identified and fixed it.

MacRumors said it has not been able to reproduce the issue, but has reached out to Apple for comment. All four new iPhones are equipped with Apple's first-ever in-house designed N1 chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, while previous iPhones relied on Broadcom chips for wireless connectivity.

In a recent interview with CNBC, Apple representatives emphasized the power-saving capabilities of the N1 chip. Arun Mathias, Apple's vice president of wireless software engineering, said that Wi-Fi hotspots also help determine the location of the device without using GPS, which consumes more power.

“By doing this more smoothly in the background, without having to wake up the application processor as often, we can locate the device much more efficiently,” Mathias said. In new iPhone announcements, Apple also said that the N1 chip helps improve the performance and reliability of features like Personal Hotspot and AirDrop.

Apple has acknowledged and said it will fix bugs like the LED light shining directly into the camera causing blur, or explaining that when updating the software, the device will temporarily heat up, leading to faster battery drain. However, some problems such as the machine's finish causing scratches, or the current N1 chip seems not to be stable enough for Wi-Fi connection for some users, still need to wait for the company to update.
