More hydropower supply reduces power outages in the North

Updated power outage schedule today, June 11, in Thai Nguyen , there are 11 areas with power outages. Many residential areas will lose power from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Notably, some businesses are also on the list of units that will "temporarily stop supplying power" from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Bac Giang Electricity Company said many areas had power outages on June 11.

According to the website of Hanoi Electricity Corporation, today, Hanoi has no areas without power.

In Bac Giang, power outages occurred in many places when the locality implemented a plan to prioritize daytime power supply for manufacturing enterprises and nighttime power supply for households, starting from June 1 to June 20, but the power outage time was shorter than in previous days. Specifically, in the past, Bac Giang had many areas with power outages from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., but now it is only from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., etc.

The number of areas with power outages and power cuts in the North has decreased compared to previous days due to showers in many places and cooler weather, which has reduced electricity demand. In addition, some hydroelectric reservoirs in the mountainous and midland areas of the North have had rain, so there is more water to generate electricity.

In addition, some thermal power plants that encountered problems have been repaired and put back into operation. According to estimates by the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), about 1,000 MW of power in the North has been restored. However, EVN believes that the current shortage of water in hydroelectric reservoirs will seriously affect the power supply to the North in June and July .

It is forecasted that the total capacity that cannot be mobilized from hydropower in the North will be at 5,000 MW and could reach 7,000 MW when Hoa Binh hydropower reservoir reaches dead water level.

According to EVN's calculations, the available capacity of hydropower is only 3,110 MW, reaching 23.7% of the total capacity of hydropower plants in the North. Meanwhile, the ability to transmit electricity from the South and Central regions to the North via 500 kV lines is always at a high limit (maximum of 2,500 MW - 2,700 MW), leading to the potential risk of power incidents.

Accordingly, the North must continue to reduce electricity in many localities until hydroelectric reservoirs have enough water to operate normally as before, then the power shortage will be resolved.
