The updated power outage schedule for today, June 11th, in Thai Nguyen continues to affect 11 areas. Many residential areas will experience power outages from 2 PM to 8 PM. Notably, several businesses are also included in the list of those experiencing temporary power interruptions from 6 AM to 6 PM.
Bac Giang Power Company reported that many areas experienced power outages on June 11th.
According to the website of the Hanoi Power Corporation, no areas in Hanoi are experiencing power outages today.
In Bac Giang, power outages occurred in many areas as the locality implemented a plan to prioritize daytime power supply for manufacturing businesses and nighttime power supply for residential areas, from June 1st to June 20th. However, the duration of the power cuts was shortened compared to previous days. Specifically, previously, many areas in Bac Giang experienced power outages from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM, but now they are only from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, etc.
The number of areas experiencing power outages in the North has decreased compared to previous days due to rain showers and cooler weather in many places, leading to reduced electricity demand. In addition, some hydroelectric reservoirs in the mountainous and midland areas of the North have received more water from the rain, thus increasing their water supply for power generation.
In addition, some thermal power plants that experienced malfunctions have been repaired and put back into operation. According to estimates by the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), approximately 1,000 MW of power in the North has been restored. However, EVN predicts that the current water shortage in hydropower reservoirs will seriously affect electricity supply to the North in June and July .
The forecast indicates that the total unutilized hydropower capacity in the North will be at 5,000 MW and could reach 7,000 MW when the Hoa Binh hydropower reservoir reaches its dead water level.
According to EVN's calculations, the available hydropower capacity is only 3,110 MW, reaching 23.7% of the total capacity of hydropower plants in the North. Meanwhile, the ability to transmit electricity from the South and Central regions to the North via the 500 kV transmission line is always at a high limit (maximum of 2,500 MW - 2,700 MW), leading to a potential risk of power outages.
Accordingly, the North will continue to have to reduce electricity supply in many localities until hydroelectric reservoirs have enough water to operate normally as before, only then will the electricity shortage be resolved.
