Da Nang Hai Ba Trung Primary School sent an open letter, hoping that instead of giving flowers and gifts on November 20, parents would switch to giving health insurance to 50 poor students.
On November 18, Principal Tran Thi Minh Nga said the school believes the economic situation is still difficult after the Covid-19 pandemic. About 50 students of the school currently do not have money to buy health insurance.
Therefore, the school sent an open letter, hoping that instead of giving gifts and flowers to celebrate November 20, parents would change to giving health insurance to disadvantaged students.
After one day, Hai Ba Trung Primary School received an amount equivalent to 20 health insurance cards. According to Ms. Nga, if the school raises more than the amount, the remaining amount will be used to give gifts to disadvantaged students during Tet.
"Teachers are happy to receive flowers, but being able to exchange health insurance cards for disadvantaged students so they can receive medical treatment and return to school soon is even happier," said Ms. Nga.

Ms. Nga said that the school's work was inspired by the principal of Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School (District 6, Ho Chi Minh City).
On November 13, Mr. Dinh Phu Cuong, principal of Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School, sent a letter asking parents to donate instead of flowers and cakes on November 20 so that 89 disadvantaged students can buy health insurance cards.
The value of each student health insurance card is more than 680,000 VND for the whole year of 2024, the total amount needed is about 60 million VND. However, the school has received 170 million VND, equivalent to 250 cards.
This action was later responded by To Hieu Primary School (Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province), aiming to call for 55 health insurance cards for disadvantaged students. Many teachers and parents consider this a practical way of doing things that needs to be spread.
Previously, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh announced that they would not receive guests, gifts or flower baskets to celebrate November 20 in order to implement the policy of saving and fighting waste.
