Cao Bang - the land at the head of the Fatherland with a rich revolutionary tradition has tempered and molded people with a simple, hard-working, resilient, brave lifestyle, ready to sacrifice for the country and always looking back to their roots. Therefore, throughout the more than 4,000 years of history of the nation, this remote borderland has always had heroes, famous generals, talented people... contributing to the cause of building, protecting and developing the homeland and the country. Many outstanding children of Cao Bang are loyal communist soldiers, typical of the Party, including comrade Hoang Dinh Giong - one of the first communist party members of the province, the founder, trainer and builder of the Cao Bang Party Committee.

The revolutionary life of comrade Hoang Dinh Giong is a glorious page in history, an example of revolutionary heroism and the noble character of a patriotic communist soldier; a true revolutionary activist, a talented leader of the Party and the Vietnam People's Army, a typical son of the revolutionary homeland of Cao Bang, forever a shining example for future generations to learn and follow.

President Ho Chi Minh once said: “ Our people must know our history, to understand the origin of Vietnam. Our history teaches us the glorious stories of our ancestors. Our people are the descendants of the Dragon and the Fairy, with many talented people who fought the North and pacified the South, bringing peace to the people and governing the country, leaving their reputation for all time …” (Vietnam Independent Newspaper No. 117, February 1, 1942 , Ho Chi Minh Complete Works, National Political Publishing House 2002). History is a thick book spanning decades and generations, a mirror reflecting people and society; historical lessons and stories always leave in each reader a sense of respect and pride for the generations of fathers and brothers who sacrificed their blood and bones to build a peaceful Vietnam. That is why, since I was a child, books about history have always fascinated me. And by chance, I came across the book Hoang Dinh Giong - life and revolutionary career (1904 - 1947) published by the Truth National Political Publishing House in 2014. The work fully describes the life and career of comrade Hoang Dinh Giong - a typical senior leader of the Party, a staunch Communist, an excellent son of the revolutionary homeland of Cao Bang. This is a book about a historical figure but it gives readers, especially the younger generation, a better understanding of the history of the nation, the great contributions of each veteran revolutionary predecessor; at the same time, it brings many meaningful messages that each person will feel in their own way. The work has truly inspired me with love for my homeland, my country, national pride, determination to study, the desire to contribute, and contribute to building my homeland, Vietnam, an increasingly rich and beautiful country.

The book is 258 pages thick, printed in size 14.5 x 20.5 cm with a structure of 10 chapters recording the life and revolutionary career of comrade Hoang Dinh Giong. Turning the first pages of the book, readers are captivated by the handwriting of the late General Vo Nguyen Giap. The General wrote: " Comrade Hoang Dinh Giong is a staunch communist, a typical son of the ethnic people of the revolutionary homeland of Cao Bang. He fought steadfastly, dedicating his whole life to the cause of national liberation and the noble communist ideal... Let us follow the example of comrade Hoang Dinh Giong to promote the strength of great national unity, strive to build a rich and strong homeland and firmly protect the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam, successfully implementing the six revolutionary targets chosen by Uncle Ho and our Party, for which comrade Hoang Dinh Giong as well as countless revolutionary soldiers fought selflessly for that noble goal". The simple and sincere words of the late General are not only an honor and pride for the family of comrade Hoang Dinh Giong but also a pride for the revolutionary homeland of Cao Bang.

The book is divided into many parts: Hoang Dinh Giong in his childhood and youth (1904 - 1925); Years of revolutionary activities in the country (1926 - 1927); Activities abroad, absorbing Marxism - Leninism, building the Cao Bang Party Committee (1927 - 1932); Directing Party organizations and revolutionary movements in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh in the years 1933 - 1936; Fighting in imperialist prisons, cleverly escaping from prison to return home to carry out revolutionary activities (1936 - 1945); Commanding troops to the South to fight against the French colonialists; Commander of Zone 9 and strategic decisions (December 1945 - November 1946); Journey to the North - Commander of Zone 6 heroically sacrificed; family happiness - revolutionary sentiment.

Comrade Hoang Dinh Giong (aka Hoang, Lau Voong, Tran Tin, Nam Binh, Van Tu, Vo Van Duc, Vu Duc, Le Minh, Cu Vu), a Tay ethnic, was born on June 1, 1904 in Thom Hoang village, Ha Hoang commune (now De Tham ward, Cao Bang city), Cao Bang province. Since childhood, Hoang Dinh Giong was an intelligent, studious student, with an early patriotic spirit. From a young age, he clearly showed his intelligent, quick thinking and especially he was very diligent in reading books, then telling his peers about the country's history, about young heroes... integrated into his patriotic essays. In the years 1923 - 1924, when studying at the French - Vietnamese primary school in Cao Bang town, Hoang Dinh Giong was known as an intelligent, diligent student and was always among the top students in his class. When he was in first grade, Hoang Dinh Giong was exposed to patriotic poetry, such as: Chieu hon nuoc, Ryukyu blood tears new book... Through those poems and literature, Hoang Dinh Giong improved his understanding in all aspects, especially fostering his patriotism and the will to hate the colonialists who invaded the country.

During his participation in revolutionary activities, he always clearly revealed the temperament and talent of a revolutionary, discovered and guided by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc. When the Southern resistance war broke out, the Party Central Committee and President Ho Chi Minh assigned him the task of Commander of the Southern Army. Comrade Hoang Dinh Giong clearly demonstrated that he was a man of both literature and martial arts, and also of virtue, worthy of the name Vo Van Duc given by President Ho Chi Minh. He was a shining example of a communist. Comrade Hoang Dinh Giong lived for the Party, died without leaving the Party, sacrificed his whole life to fight for the independence and freedom of the nation, for the happiness of the people, representing the revolutionary heroism of the Ho Chi Minh era. He was worthy of being one of the outstanding students of President Ho Chi Minh.

Through each page of the book, what remains in me is the image of a steadfast revolutionary soldier, absolutely loyal to the Party and the country. Outstanding are the sense of responsibility, the sense of organization, discipline and absolute obedience and compliance with the organization's assignments. Throughout his life of revolutionary activities, he always put the interests of the Party and the nation above all; lived simply, sincerely, close to, closely attached to the masses, always listened to and respected the opinions of the masses, and was especially loved, trusted and admired by the masses. Many times captured by the enemy, brutally tortured, and tried in every way to entice him, he still bravely denounced the crimes of the French colonialists and their henchmen, affirming that the revolutionary path to national liberation was the right path. Knowing that he could not overcome the iron will of the communists, the French colonialists exiled him to all the imperialist prisons. He and his comrades turned the “hells on earth” into revolutionary schools, places for training and fostering cadres, and founded and led the Communist Party cell in Son La prison. During the years of exile by the imperialists, he always turned his mind to his homeland and country. His 43 years of life, although not long, were full of achievements and pride. He fought until his last breath and went down in history as an outstanding leader, a military commander with great courage and experience, who devoted his whole life to the cause of national liberation and the happiness of the people.

Although the book is about history, for me it really inspires endlessly and makes me strive harder in life. The outstanding writer of Russian literature Maxim Gorky once said " Books open up new horizons before our eyes" . Indeed, reading a good book will bring us a lot of useful knowledge about the life around us. The sentences and timelines about a historical figure that seem dry in this book are lessons about striving to rise up, the spirit of learning, the sense of responsibility for life; and above all, the immortal love for the homeland and country of a martyr, a typical revolutionary predecessor. Since childhood, when he had a love for his country, wanted to contribute, wanted to fight to do something for his homeland and country, comrade Hoang Dinh Giong himself encountered many difficulties in studying due to oppression, affecting his family and his future, but he did not give up, did not abandon his noble ideals, but with a positive lifestyle, he had to strive to overcome all difficulties, continue to teach, spread the ideology of patriotism, he tried to overcome all difficulties to live with his ideals and ambitions.

The character's positive lifestyle, responsibility, and desire to contribute have strongly inspired readers, especially our young generation. Through each page of the book, I understand more about the value of life, the value of peace, of "freedom, prosperity, happiness" that many generations of fathers and grandfathers have sacrificed their youth and blood to gain. Through the book, I understand more about the revolutionary life of comrade Hoang Dinh Giong, a glorious page in history, an example of revolutionary heroism and the noble character of a patriotic communist soldier. With the spirit of self-study, self-training, and enthusiasm for participating in rich revolutionary activities, he is a true revolutionary activist and a talented leader of the Party. From the book, I understood why the province's largest cadre training school was honored to be named Hoang Dinh Giong Political School; the most beautiful street in Cao Bang city is also named Hoang Dinh Giong.

I am so proud of my hometown Cao Bang, a land of outstanding people that gave birth to an outstanding son, a shining example for generations of today to learn from. Closing the book, I was left with many emotions about a heroic character, and at the same time opened up many dreams and ambitions. When I was born, I was lucky to live in a peaceful environment, enjoying the best things. To contribute to building the country and homeland, we need to make more efforts in studying and working; need to know how to love and share more in life. The desire to contribute is both the goal and the motivation to strive and practice in studying as well as in life to bring the best things to society.

During his lifetime, beloved Uncle Ho had a special love for books and newspapers. He read books and newspapers very early and it became an indispensable need in his life and activities. Uncle Ho is a shining example for each of us to follow in terms of reading culture. For him, reading books, newspapers, magazines... is an important, direct way of self-study to accumulate knowledge, train our thoughts, practice ethics to become a good person and be a human being. French social psychologist Gustave Le Bon also affirmed: " A good book gives us something good, a good friend gives us something good ". Books bring many benefits to each person, a good book helps us a lot in life; teaches us how to be a human being, teaches us to always study, practice and develop ourselves to become a useful citizen for society; teaches us to conquer all difficulties to reach success. I hope that everyone, especially the young generation, needs to make an effort to read books to constantly develop their intelligence, improve their awareness and personality, and actively contribute to the construction and protection of our beloved Vietnam.
