
At the close of trading on June 1st, the Dow Jones index rose 0.09% to 51,078.88 points; the S&P 500 increased 0.26% to 7,599.96 points; and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.42% to 27,086.81 points.
The market was focused on Nvidia, whose stock rose more than 6% after CEO Jensen Huang unveiled the “RTX Spark”—a new superchip based on the Arm platform, designed to directly run artificial intelligence (AI) applications on personal computers. This news had a positive effect across the technology industry as investors expected AI to usher in a new growth cycle for the PC market.
The impact from Nvidia quickly spread to related businesses, with Dell Technologies and HP shares rising 10.7% and 8.51% respectively, while Intel shares fell more than 4%.
Looking at the sectors within the S&P 500, technology and energy stocks were the biggest gainers, while utilities and consumer discretionary stocks were the biggest losers.
Investors are awaiting the US jobs report, scheduled for June 5th. Wall Street experts believe this data will provide further clues about the health of the labor market and could significantly influence the Federal Reserve's interest rate decisions in the near future.
In Vietnam, at the close of trading on June 1st, the VN-Index fell 18.95 points (1.02%) to 1,844.54 points, while the HNX-Index rose 10.24 points (3.47%) to 305.18 points.
