In the early days of autumn in Hanoi, flags and flowers adorn every corner of Vietnam. It's not difficult to spot the national flag proudly displayed in front of every house, and flower vendors carrying small flags along the streets.
Nguyen Ngoc Linh (a student majoring in Asia-Pacific Studies at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam) was deeply moved by the beauty of the national flag. With many profound thoughts in her heart, Ngoc Linh confided: “I still vividly remember what my teacher taught me in elementary school. The red flag with a yellow star, with its red background symbolizing revolution, the yellow representing the Vietnamese nation, and the five points of the star corresponding to the five social classes – intellectuals, farmers, workers, merchants, and soldiers – all create a great national unity. The flag itself carries a sacred meaning, and perhaps that is something I can never forget.”
Since childhood, the image of the flag has been deeply ingrained in Ngoc Linh's mind, becoming a symbol that motivates her to strive and work hard.
These days, Ngoc Linh has been spending time strolling through the streets of Hanoi. She is incredibly proud to see the vibrant red flag along the roads she travels. The red flag with a five-pointed yellow star has accompanied the people from the difficult days of struggle to the time when the country entered the Doi Moi (Renovation) period, striving to "stand shoulder to shoulder with the world's leading nations." The historical significance of the national flag is a great reminder for Ngoc Linh. Accordingly, she hopes to strive to cultivate and promote the identity of a Vietnamese student, especially in the VUCA (Volatility; Uncertainty; Complexity; Ambiguity) world.
The image of the flag also evoked many reflections in Nguyen Vi Khanh (Finance student at RMIT University). Vi Khanh shared: “For me, the national flag is always one of the most sacred things of every country. Especially on National Day, September 2nd, the image of the Vietnamese flag hanging straight throughout the streets makes me feel a sacred and proud atmosphere like never before. I think flying the flag on September 2nd evokes in each of us a strong sense of national pride and gratitude towards the past, and that is what makes the national flag even more special on this day.”
In the university environment, Vi Khanh has plans for self-development and is determined to represent her country at international competitions.
The image of the red flag with a yellow star fluttering against a peaceful blue sky always ignites in the hearts of the Vietnamese people a passionate desire to dedicate themselves to their homeland. It's not just on important national holidays that the streets are adorned with the vibrant red flag. The Vietnamese people have always held a deep love and respect for their national flag because of its profound meaning, especially for the younger generation – the future leaders of the country.
A proud belief in the future.

Having been a National Outstanding Student in History, Vu Ngoc Huyen (International Communication student at the Diplomatic Academy) affirmed: "Educating patriotism and the awareness of protecting the national flag from a young age has immense significance for the younger generation in the future."
“Patriotism is the core of human character, a precious tradition that needs to be nurtured from childhood. When sown in young children, love for one's homeland will become an indispensable part of a child's soul. At the same time, the awareness of protecting the national flag will help each person understand the sacred meaning of the national flag, thereby strengthening the spirit of unity and attachment to the community,” Ngoc Huyen said with a smile.
For Ngoc Huyen, positive expressions demonstrating patriotism and solidarity are always present and enduring in "the most ordinary images of everyday life."
In recent days, the trend of painting the national flag to celebrate National Day has spread widely. Images of people painting murals and rooftops with the national flag, as seen in the media, have strongly inspired Ngoc Huyen. This has awakened in her a proud belief in the future: "Such practical actions are not just a fleeting trend, but clear evidence that educating patriotism from a young age has sown good seeds in the hearts of every Vietnamese citizen."

In the atmosphere of National Day, the image of the national flag becomes even more sacred and solemn. The national flag of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a symbol of independence, freedom, and happiness; a shining image that inspires generations to contribute to building the nation and bringing glory to the country.
