The appearance of Dong village is becoming increasingly modern.

Spacious and clean.

Previously, the approximately 500-meter-long road in Nha Tho hamlet was severely degraded, affecting the movement of residents. With a determination to build an advanced new rural area and the support of the government, households in the hamlet voluntarily contributed funds to widen the road. In mid-2023, the road was officially put into use, much to the joy and excitement of the people.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien from Nha Tho hamlet said that instead of pouring concrete, the villagers have paved 100% of the roads with asphalt to serve the transportation and goods circulation needs of the people. The road surface has not only been widened from 2 meters to 4 meters but also has an underground drainage system. To ensure safety at night, the hamlet relocated power poles and installed a lighting system. The total investment for these projects is over 400 million VND, of which the people contributed 60%. The village roads and alleys are now clean and beautiful, transforming the appearance of the countryside.

Households in Nha Tho hamlet invested over 400 million VND to upgrade and expand the road.

From 2023 to 2024, the people of Dong village organized the upgrading and expansion of 10 roads. Of these, 6 roads were paved with asphalt at a total cost of nearly 1.5 billion VND. In 2024, the village and its people continued to invest in installing a high-pressure lighting system and decorative lights along nearly 1 km with a total cost of nearly 300 million VND. This project contributes to creating a beautiful landscape and enhancing the reputation of two famous historical sites: the Memorial House of Vice President Nguyen Luong Bang and Dong communal house.

Thanks to the contributions and joint efforts of the people, the road system in Dong village has now been 100% concreted and asphalted, fully meeting the criteria of a model new rural area. Walking on the new, spacious, and clean roads, Ms. Pham Thi Hoai, Secretary of the Party Branch of Dong village, proudly said: "The synchronized construction of the village's transportation infrastructure, directly connected to Provincial Road 392, has created favorable conditions for people to develop their economy . The lives of the people are increasingly improving and being enhanced."

100% of households in Dong village have garbage bins, ensuring environmental hygiene.

Currently, over 95% of households in Dong village have solid, multi-story houses. The village is also a model locality in the district, having established four neighborhood groups for fire prevention and control with approximately 200 participating households. Fourteen hamlets have self-governing groups for security, order, and environmental sanitation. The camera system is increasingly being expanded, contributing to maintaining and ensuring security and order in the locality.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong from Dong village said: "Environmental sanitation is a top priority for the villagers. Instead of piling up garbage at designated collection points, 100% of households have garbage bins in front of their houses. The family's wastewater drainage system is directly connected to the underground drainage system for the roads. As a result, the village roads are always clean, ensuring environmental hygiene."

Improved living standards

Benefiting from its location next to Provincial Road 392 and near the Hanoi -Hai Phong Expressway interchange, nearly 300 households in Dong village have focused on developing trade and services, contributing to increased income and improved living standards. In 2024, the average per capita income in Dong village reached 84 million VND/person/year, an increase of approximately 5 million VND compared to 2023. The poverty rate decreased to below 1%.

With economic development, households in the village are paying more attention to local fire prevention and control. To proactively protect their property, nearly 200 households have joined four neighborhood fire prevention and control groups. Security, public order, and traffic safety have been strengthened and improved thanks to the security camera system installed by the residents.

The villages and hamlets in Dong village
The village roads and alleys in Dong village are always clean and tidy.

According to Ms. Hoai, for many years, Dong village has not experienced any fires, thefts, or violations of the law, nor any large-scale complaints. Upholding the traditions of this land of outstanding people and rich history, the promotion of education and talent is highly valued by the villagers. Currently, all clans in the village have established scholarship funds that regularly encourage and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds who achieve good academic results. Cultural and recreational facilities are also invested in by the villagers, contributing to an improved quality of life.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ban, from Team 5, Dong village, said that previously, the area near the "Dragon's Eye Well" was a low-lying, overgrown area, leaving children in the hamlet without a place to play and have fun. Wishing to create a scenic highlight, the villagers requested the commune to renovate the area into a sports playground with a total cost of nearly 300 million VND. Currently, in addition to the central sports field, Dong village has also built three public cultural activity centers, fully meeting the needs of the people for sports, culture, and arts.

According to the leaders of Thanh Tung commune People's Committee, Dong village currently has nearly 800 households with 2,800 inhabitants. In recent years, the government and people in the village have worked together to build increasingly modern and comprehensive infrastructure.

This is also a typical example of a commune in building advanced new rural areas and model new rural areas in Thanh Mien district. With its bright, green, clean, and beautiful landscape and rich cultural life, the people of Dong village are creating a "town within the village".
