Governor Nguyen Thi Hong: Digital transformation is inevitable for sustainable development and international integration

Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Nguyen Thi Hong affirmed that digital transformation is an inevitable path for sustainable development and international integration. The banking industry will continue to pioneer and take the lead in digital transformation to join the country in entering a new era.

On May 27, 2025, in Hanoi, the State Bank of Vietnam held a conference to launch the movement "The whole country competes in innovation and digital transformation" and "Digital literacy" of the banking industry in conjunction with Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo .

Previously, the State Bank of Vietnam identified the key tasks of the industry in implementing Resolution 57 as: Raising awareness, renewing thinking; Perfecting institutions and policies; Increasing investment, perfecting infrastructure; Developing and making good use of talents and high-quality human resources; (5) Promoting digital transformation, improving management efficiency; Promoting science , technology, innovation activities; Strengthening international cooperation.

Deputy Governor of the State Bank Pham Tien Dung affirmed that the launching of the two emulation movements "The whole country competes in innovation and digital transformation" and the movement "Digital education for the masses" aims to: Promote the synchronous participation and promote the overall strength of the entire banking industry in implementing innovation and digital transformation; Disseminate basic knowledge about digital transformation with the most drastic, responsible and effective spirit; Enhance the role and responsibility of heads of units in implementing key and strategic tasks of the industry and the country.

According to quick statistics from a number of commercial banks, banks have moved very quickly and strongly in innovation and digital transformation activities. From 2024 to now, many banks have built and implemented a large number of initiatives to improve operational processes and digital transformation, some banks have more than 100 initiatives/year, typically: BIDV (299 digital initiatives/total 729 initiatives/year); TPBank (135 digital initiatives/150 initiatives); Agribank (120 digital initiatives); VIB (101 initiatives); VietinBank (100 digital initiatives); Shinhan Bank Vietnam (69/166 initiatives); Vietcombank (98 initiatives).

At the same time, the number of Bank staff trained in digital transformation, technology, and artificial intelligence from 2022 to May 15, 2025 also recorded very impressive numbers, typically: VietinBank (90,825 courses); MB (55,402 courses); Techcombank (50,942 courses); Agribank (47,148 courses); BIDV (38,985 courses); VIB (35,627 courses).

The State Bank of Vietnam has been at the top of the administrative reform rankings of ministries and ministerial-level agencies for 7 consecutive years and has been repeatedly commended for its pioneering and proactive role in digital transformation and innovation.

Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Hong affirmed that digital transformation is an inevitable path for sustainable development and international integration. The entire banking industry will continue to pioneer and take the lead in digital transformation to join the country in entering a new era - the era of national development.

According to the Governor, the development of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation are breakthroughs and the main driving force for our country to develop in the new era. Therefore, in order to change thinking, awareness and succeed in digital transformation, every bank officer, regardless of position, needs to improve their digital knowledge, thereby making practical contributions to improving the unit's work efficiency, while also supporting and promoting digital transformation in agencies, ministries, sectors and the entire economy. Because, to move towards a digital economy, the banking sector plays an extremely important role.

The emulation movement "The whole country competes in innovation and digital transformation" launched by the Prime Minister and the movement "Digital education for all" according to plan 01-KH/BCĐTW of the Central Steering Committee on science, technology development, innovation and digital transformation are strong calls for the aspiration to rise up, master technology and the digital future of our country. These are practical movements to effectively implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo, creating breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.

The Governor affirmed that the emulation movement is a commitment of the banking industry to accompany the country on the journey of popularizing digital skills to every organization and individual, leaving no one behind in the digital age.

The head of the State Bank also noted that the banking industry should focus on a number of key tasks: building and developing digital human resources; continuing to research and propose practical and highly feasible digital initiatives to improve work processes and operating models; praising and rewarding officials with outstanding digital achievements and typical initiatives.
