Narrowing the "digital gap" for people in remote areas of Nam Ka

In the context of the country promoting digital transformation, access to information has become an essential need. However, in many remote areas, the “digital gap” is still a barrier to community and social development.

Recognizing this challenge, Nam Ka commune has made efforts to implement many solutions to narrow the "digital gap", to help ethnic minorities access knowledge, technology and escape poverty sustainably.

Nam Ka is one of the remote areas of the province, with the characteristics of scattered population, difficult transportation; access to information and policies is still limited. This is also one of the reasons why the poverty rate of the commune is always high.

In 2025, Nam Ka commune aims to narrow the “digital gap” for people in remote areas and considers this a key task in the sustainable poverty reduction program. The most important milestone in information poverty reduction is the introduction of telecommunications lines and internet to Lach Lo village in August 2025.

Lach Lo village is located in Nam Ka Nature Reserve, with 100% ethnic minority people; it is also the most remote and most inaccessible village in the commune. Extending the transmission line to this last piece has completed Nam Ka's information network, solving the problem of information barriers, and also shortening the "digital gap" between the people in the village and the outside world .

Mr. Ma Khieu, Lach Lo village, shared: Previously, Lach Lo village did not have a phone signal, nor did it have internet. Every time the local government implemented any activities or policies, it had to go directly to the village or send documents, so it was often delayed. The most basic information about science and technology in agricultural production, natural disaster warnings, agricultural market information, etc. was also limited, causing people to always be passive in production and life. After having a phone and internet, people can follow weather forecasts, learn how to tend fields, raise cows, and grow coffee right on their mobile phones. More importantly, people in Lach Lo village can proactively update information and new policies of the State, no longer having to wait for village meetings like before.

"Narrowing the "digital gap" not only acts as a bridge to bring information to people in remote areas, but is also a fundamental solution to help people have enough knowledge, confidence and courage to rise up and escape poverty" - Vice Chairman of Nam Ka Commune People's Committee Le Van Lon.

In addition to telecommunications coverage to the entire area, Nam Ka commune has also invested in a smart loudspeaker system to serve information and propaganda work. This system helps commune officials send audio content directly from their phones or computers, ensuring stable volume and clear quality.

Mr. Nguyen Van Man, Head of the Nam Ka Commune Culture Department, said: After a period of implementation, the smart broadcasting system not only helps to effectively transmit information, but also ensures flexibility in providing timely content, meeting the diverse information needs of the people. In particular, with a flexible and proactive information mechanism, this system has helped the locality to continuously and promptly broadcast urgent notices related to flood and landslide warnings; vaccination schedule announcements, instructions on disease prevention on crops and livestock... so that people can grasp and implement promptly and effectively.

Along with investing in perfecting the information system, the people of Nam Ka commune are gradually shifting from "passive" access to information to a more "proactive" approach. Mr. Yvôn Eanoul, Tusria hamlet, Nam Ka commune, expressed: In recent years, people not only follow information through loudspeakers, but can also proactively search for necessary information sources through social networks. With just a smartphone, everyone can promptly grasp information about weather developments, techniques, farming experiences according to new processes, pest prevention as well as monitor market developments, fluctuations in agricultural product prices before selling; how to access support programs, encourage production of the State... These things will help each person to be more confident and produce more effectively.

People in Nam Ka commune not only use social networks for entertainment, but also for information search and production development.

According to the People's Committee of Nam Ka commune, the completion of telecommunications infrastructure helps people in the remote commune of Nam Ka gradually shorten the "digital gap" with other localities. With the current digital infrastructure, each person in Nam Ka commune can proactively seek information, research documents, share production and breeding experiences, and even submit administrative procedures... without wasting time traveling. These utilities have created many advantages in the learning process, improving the quality of life of the people; at the same time, opening up many opportunities to promote trade, connection, and expand development space for the people of Nam Ka.

Mr. Le Van Lon, Vice Chairman of Nam Ka Commune People's Committee, said: By 2025, changes in Nam Ka are proving that information poverty reduction is a completely feasible task with concrete steps, through infrastructure investment, expanding access, improving digital skills and ensuring information reaches the right people at the right time. These efforts open up a new direction for sustainable poverty reduction - where technology not only serves production but also becomes the "key" to help people in remote areas confidently join the digital transformation process of the province as well as the whole country.
