On May 24, the Department of Drug Administration ( Ministry of Health ) requested to suspend circulation and recall the batch of Hanayuki Conditioner 300g bottle, batch number 0010125, manufactured on January 5, 2025, expiry date January 4, 2027. The product was brought to the market by VB Group Trading and Service Company Limited (Ho Chi Minh City) and manufactured by EBC Group Company Limited (Dong Nai).
The request was made after the Ho Chi Minh City Drug Testing Institute reported the results of testing product samples taken at EBC Dong Nai Medical Factory Joint Stock Company. Accordingly, the tested sample contained 2-phenoxyethanol, which is not included in the product formula that has been granted a declaration receipt number.
This is the third product advertised by singer Doan Di Bang to be recalled in the past 10 days. Last week, a batch of Hanayuki shampoo was recalled by Dong Nai Department of Health due to poor quality due to containing 2-phenoxyethanol, and one sample also failed to meet microbiological standards. This time, it was conditioner of the same brand, with similar violations.
Doan Di Bang was born in 1989, used to be a singer, actress, and then a beauty product entrepreneur. Recently, she has been constantly involved in scandals related to advertising, of which the most controversial is the introduction "one pill is equal to 5 kg of vegetables".
The female singer once advertised the best-selling shampoo and conditioner pair of VB Group, "the pride of the Hanayuki family". VB Group is the legal entity behind the Hanayuki cosmetics brand. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Vu - Doan Di Bang's husband - is the legal representative and General Director of this company.
In addition, Hanayuki Sunscreen Body, also advertised by Doan Di Bang, was recalled due to its SPF index of only 2.4 - much lower than the declared on the label (SPF 50).
In addition to recalling the products, the Drug Administration requested two companies, VB Group and EBC Dong Nai, to temporarily suspend the production and trading of cosmetics. The reason is that out of 8 cosmetic product samples put on the market by VB Group and produced by EBC Dong Nai, 3 consecutive samples violated quality standards.
The two companies must report, explain, and provide complete documents related to the violating product batches, according to the working requirements of the Department of Health of Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City and other competent agencies. The Department of Health received the request to withdraw the receipt number of the product declaration form Hanayuki Conditioner - 300g bottle, continue to inspect, handle violations and transfer the case file to the police for investigation.
Local health departments are also required to widely inform about the violations of these two companies so that users can be cautious with other batches of the violating products.
In recent months, authorities have continuously discovered fake milk, fake drugs, health supplements, and low-quality cosmetics. Many famous people in Vietnam have recently been condemned for falsely advertising and exaggerating the benefits of many milk products and health supplements.
On May 22, the Ministry of Health established 15 teams to conduct surprise inspections of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, traditional medicine, milk, functional foods and medical equipment. Previously, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested a high-level campaign to combat smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin, violations of copyright, intellectual property and origin of goods.
