Bay Mau Coconut Forest is not only famous for its unique water coconut ecosystem, but also a "green memory vein" preserving a part of the heroic history and rustic lifestyle of Quang people along the Thu Bon River.
From Hoi An ancient town, visitors can take a car, motorbike or bicycle along Tran Nhan Tong street, taking less than 10 minutes to reach Cam Thanh wharf - the gateway to Hoi An to start the journey to explore the coconut forest.

The Bay Mau coconut forest is over 100 hectares wide, interwoven with a dense system of canals, creating a charming river scene. Since ancient times, water coconut trees have taken root here, providing shelter from rain and storms, protecting the land and the village.
During the resistance war against the French and then the Americans, the coconut forest became a shelter and an important base for the revolution. The people of Cam Thanh are still proud because this place used to be a place to hide soldiers, hide wounded soldiers, and hide the dreams of a peaceful country of each citizen at that time.

Nowadays, the locals have cleverly combined these “green memories” into developing eco -tourism . Since the early 2000s, when international visitors began to come to Hoi An, locals have thought of a form of tourism associated with nature. At first, only a few households did it spontaneously, but later, when they saw the real potential, the whole commune joined in. They established cooperatives, trained in welcoming guests, preserving the landscape, and rowing boats together - all of which were organized systematically but still retained their own “countryside” character.
Not commercialized, still keeping the simplicity and generosity is what any visitor coming here can feel.

A special highlight of the journey to explore the coconut forest is the experience of sitting in a basket boat weaving through the rows of shady water coconut trees. The "rowers" not only take visitors on a tour but also perform skillful basket boat dance techniques. The best part is that visitors can experience the thrill of skillful rowers dancing. Every time the rowers perform, the sound of music, laughter, and applause resounds throughout the Thu Bon River. In addition, visitors can also sing to each other on the river, experience catching crabs, spreading nets, and admiring handicraft stalls... All are extremely rustic and generous, just like the inherent character of the people here.

Currently, the price of a ticket to visit the coconut forest ranges from 130,000 - 150,000 VND/basket/2 people, including the entrance ticket and the experience of sitting in a basket boat for about 45 - 60 minutes. Children under 1 meter tall are usually free or charged a discount depending on the organizer.

The ideal time to visit the coconut forest is from February to September every year because at this time the weather is sunny, the water is clear, the scenery is easy to observe and it is convenient to travel. Visitors can buy tickets directly at the pier or through travel agencies. If traveling on your own, you should depart early in the morning or early afternoon to avoid the harsh sunlight, and you can combine it with exploring Hoi An ancient town during the day.

In addition to the Bay Mau coconut forest, when coming to Hoi An, don't miss the show "Hoi An Memories" staged on the outdoor stage of Memory Island. The show, performed by more than 500 actors with elaborate staging, will take the audience back in time, reliving the ups and downs of Hoi An's history from the bustling Faifo trading port to the lives of people along the quiet Hoai River. The show is becoming an attractive cultural highlight for tourists to choose in their journey to explore this heritage land.
