At exactly 7:00 a.m. this morning, May 25, at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi, the memorial service for former President Tran Duc Luong took place.
Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh , Head of the National Funeral Organizing Committee, presided over the funeral ceremony.
According to the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, in memory of former President Tran Duc Luong, in the past few days, more than 830 delegations with more than 10,500 people, representing agencies, organizations, localities, units, people's armed forces, intellectuals, religious dignitaries, domestic and international organizations and individuals have come to pay their respects to the former President at the National Funeral House (No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi), Thong Nhat Hall (HCMC) and his hometown.
Among them, many diplomatic delegations, international organizations, leaders of many countries, and international friends sent condolences to the Party, State, people, and family of the former President.
"Today, in infinite sorrow, we gather here to send comrade Tran Duc Luong, former President, to his final resting place. On behalf of the funeral organizing committee, I hereby declare the beginning of the memorial service for comrade Tran Duc Luong," said Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh.
Immediately afterwards, the National Anthem was solemnly performed.
Next, the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister invited President Luong Cuong, Head of the Funeral Committee, to read the eulogy.

Speaking of gratitude, Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, son of former President Tran Duc Luong, expressed his gratitude to the Party, State, people, and international friends for solemnly organizing the State funeral, visiting, and seeing his father off to his final resting place.
"On behalf of my mother, sisters, wife and all the children and grandchildren in the family, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who attended the memorial service and saw off my father - comrade Tran Duc Luong on his final journey of life," said Mr. Tuan Anh.
Mr. Tran Tuan Anh said that during his life, his father - former President Tran Duc Luong - lived, worked and devoted himself tirelessly to the noble revolutionary ideal, to national independence and socialism, and to the happiness of the people.
No matter what position he held, from a geological officer to President, former President Tran Duc Luong always upheld a sense of responsibility, was devoted to his work, was close to the people and had a simple lifestyle.
"In work and life, my father taught us lessons about patriotism, dedication to work, how to live sincerely, simply, humbly and with responsibility to the country and the people. His teachings and example will always be the luggage for our descendants in both work and life. To my mother and my family, my father is an exemplary husband, loyal all his life, always a solid support for the whole family..." said Mr. Tran Tuan Anh.
He emphasized that although our father has passed away, in the hearts of each family member, his image and spiritual legacy will always live on with the family, with us. Previously, on May 24, at the National Funeral Home - No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the family solemnly held a state funeral for former President Tran Duc Luong.
At the same time, a solemn memorial service for former President Tran Duc Luong was held at Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City and T50 Hall, Quang Ngai Province Military Command.
According to the Organizing Committee of the State Funeral of former President Tran Duc Luong, as of 5:00 p.m. on May 24, 655 delegations (about 9,300 people) had come to pay their respects, send wreaths, and express condolences to the family of the former President.
Former President Tran Duc Luong passed away after a period of illness at 10:51 p.m. on May 20 at his home; he was 88 years old.
Former Politburo member and former President Tran Duc Luong was born in 1937, in Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho district (now Duc Pho town), Quang Ngai province.
He joined the revolution in February 1955 and joined the Party in December 1959.
Former President Tran Duc Luong was a member of the Party Central Committee for 5 terms (V (alternate), VI, VII, VIII, IX); a member of the Politburo for the 8th and 9th terms; a member of the Politburo Standing Committee for the 8th term. He was a National Assembly delegate for the 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th terms.
He served as Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Deputy Prime Minister, and then as President and Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council for the 10th and 11th terms.
During more than 50 years of revolutionary activities, former President Tran Duc Luong made many great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
He was awarded the Gold Star Order, 65-year Party membership badge and many other noble orders, medals, awards and titles by the Party and State.
