
The above request was made by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at a meeting of the Government Standing Committee to listen to reports, assess the situation and give opinions on directions, solutions and next steps after the second round of negotiations on the bilateral agreement on reciprocal trade between Vietnam and the US, on May 24.
Regarding the next work, the Prime Minister stated that based on the achieved results, the actual situation, and Vietnam's ability to respond, on the principle of harmonious interests and shared risks between the two sides, ensuring Vietnam's core interests, contributing to consolidating, strengthening, and promoting the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, it is necessary to have appropriate and effective plans and measures to continue negotiations, and try to declare the end of negotiations as soon as possible.
Welcoming the US's positivity, the Prime Minister assessed that the results of the recent negotiation rounds showed positive signs, with both sides having the opportunity to exchange, provide, and share information and each other's circumstances, on that basis to understand each other better, sympathize with each other more in the current context, and provide positive directions for the next negotiation rounds, aiming for appropriate and balanced results for both sides.
In addition, Vietnamese ministries, branches, functional agencies and enterprises continue to contact and work with the US side in many flexible and diverse forms to contribute to promoting the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in general and promoting negotiations in particular.
According to the Prime Minister, agencies, units, localities, and enterprises continue to negotiate and promote the purchase and sale of goods that the US has strengths in and Vietnam has demand for, to contribute to balancing the trade between the two countries as soon as possible, such as Boeing aircraft, LNG gas, and some agricultural products, etc.
The Head of Government acknowledged that the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , and relevant ministries and sectors have reviewed and promptly handled issues related to projects that the US is interested in.
The Government Standing Committee and the Prime Minister continue to monitor and closely follow the negotiation situation and related developments, closely follow the direction of the Politburo and the General Secretary, and direct the development and proposal of appropriate, effective and practical solutions for both sides, in the spirit of harmonious interests and shared risks.
According to the Prime Minister, relevant ministries, branches and units such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese Trade Representative in the US have actively and made efforts to serve the negotiating delegation; the ministries, branches and agencies have coordinated smoothly and effectively.
