Memories of a kind and dedicated leader

Sharing with us, Major Bui Xuan Tuoi recalled the honor of meeting former President Tran Duc Luong during a business trip in 2013 at Binh Chau resort, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. At that time, former President Tran Duc Luong had knee problems. With his experience and expertise, Tuoi performed physical therapy to effectively relieve pain for the former President right from the first session. Since then, he has become one of the medical staff trusted by the family of former President Tran Duc Luong to take care of his health for more than 10 years.

“I still remember very clearly the feeling when I heard that former President Tran Duc Luong's pain had subsided after the first treatment session. The joy at that time was hard to describe. Since then, every time the former President visited the South, I was able to participate in taking care of his health. It was a great honor in my professional life," said Comrade Tuoi.

During his treatment at home, Comrade Tuoi often listened to former President Tran Duc Luong talk about familiar issues in life, lessons in work, and interpersonal relationships. “Former President Tran Duc Luong always had a calm, open, and gentle demeanor, making people feel close and respectful. He always paid attention to his fellow cadres, asking about their health, work, and family life,” Comrade Tuoi emotionally shared. With his dedication and devotion to health care, Comrade Tuoi was loved by former President Tran Duc Luong and his family, who considered him a close family member.

Upon receiving the news of the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong, Comrade Tuoi was deeply moved and felt infinitely sad as if he had lost a family member. After learning about the funeral, he asked for permission from his unit to pay his respects to former President Tran Duc Luong at the Reunification Hall. Comrade Tuoi expressed: “The life and revolutionary career of former President Tran Duc Luong is a great lesson in a simple lifestyle, closeness, knowing how to listen, caring for others and devoting myself to the country and the people. Working in the military medical force, I learned from the former President a sense of responsibility, humility and dedication to work.”

After lighting incense to pay respect to former President Tran Duc Luong, Major Bui Xuan Tuoi sat silently for hours on the waiting bench, watching the stream of people coming to pay their respects to the former President. For him, the memories of the time he took care of former President Tran Duc Luong are a great spiritual asset for him to strive even harder in his life and professional work in the future.
