Tho Chu Island Traditional Liaison Committee celebrates 50 years of island liberation

On May 24, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Tho Chu Island Traditional Liaison Committee in Ho Chi Minh City held a meeting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Tho Chu Island (May 27, 1975 - May 27, 2025) and the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Tho Chu Island Traditional Liaison Committee in Ho Chi Minh City (May 27, 2010 - May 27, 2025).

Attending the meeting were Colonel Dao Phuc Lam, former Commander of Tho Chu Island, Head of the Tho Chu Island Traditional Liaison Committee in Ho Chi Minh City and leaders of the Command, Political Commissar of Naval Region 5 through the periods, along with many officers and soldiers who used to work on Tho Chu Island.

In the warm atmosphere of the meeting, members of the Tho Chu Island Traditional Liaison Committee reviewed the heroic traditions of the forces working on Tho Chu Island during the battle to liberate the island.

In 1975, when Vietnam had just been unified, Pol Pot sent troops to invade the islands and mainland border in the Southwest of our country.

Faced with the complicated situation of the sea, the Southwest Island and Tho Chu Island, Military Region 9 coordinated with the Navy to march to retake the island. After 3 days of fierce fighting (from May 24 to 27, 1975), on May 27, 1975, Tho Chu Island was completely liberated.

On August 27, 1975, Battalion 5 (Regiment 101, Military Region 9) with 530 officers and soldiers marched to take over and protect Tho Chu Island. In December 1978, Battalion 5 changed its name to Battalion 561. Later, Battalion 561 was upgraded to a Regiment called Tho Chu Island.

In 2015, the Ministry of National Defense decided to transfer Tho Chu Island from the Naval Region 5 Command to Military Region 9 and named Regiment 152.

In addition to carrying out the unit's political tasks, the three forces including Tho Chu Island, Radar Station 610 and Border Guard Station 770 also help and support the building of Party organizations, government, political systems and administrative agencies on Tho Chau island commune.

After 50 years of construction, striving and development, many names of officers and soldiers from different periods of defending the island have been recorded in the Golden Book of Tradition of Tho Chu Island. Officers and soldiers of Tho Chu Island, Regiment 152 have achieved many outstanding achievements: The island is the top unit of Naval Region 5 and Regiment 152 has achieved the title of Comprehensively Strong Unit of Military Region 9 for 5 consecutive years...

Speaking at the meeting, Colonel Dao Phuc Lam, former Commander of Tho Chu Island, shared that over the past 15 years, the committee has always maintained meetings to celebrate its founding anniversary; strengthened the organization, developed members and organized many charitable activities (visiting and giving gifts to encourage members/relatives of members with serious illnesses, difficult family circumstances, etc.).

Along with that, members are always united, regularly contact, exchange information, wholeheartedly join hands to contribute to building the liaison committee to grow stronger and stronger.
