The recall request was made on May 16, after the Ho Chi Minh City Drug Testing Institute tested the product sample and found that the sun protection factor on the label, SPF 50, was actually only 2.4.
In addition, according to the product declaration form, the product's features and uses state "protects the skin from the sun, nourishes the skin and whitens the whole body", without stating that it has a sun protection factor of SPF 50 as on the label.
SPF (sun protection factor) is a measure of the ability to resist UVB rays, used in sunscreen. The higher the index, the better the sun protection.
The product label of Hanayuki Sunscreen Body box of 1 tube of 100g is marketed by VB Group Trading and Service Company Limited in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City, and produced by EBC Group Company Limited in Trang Bom District, Dong Nai Province.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam requested to suspend the circulation and recall the above product batch nationwide, and immediately stop trading and using the batch. VB Group and EBC Dong Nai must notify the recall to distributors, receive returned and destroyed products, and report the results before June 15.
VB Group Trading and Service Company Limited is the legal entity behind the Hanayuki cosmetics brand. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Vu - husband of singer Doan Di Bang is the legal representative and General Director of the company. On May 7, the Ministry of Health also recalled a batch of low-quality shampoo from these two companies due to poor quality.
Recently, the Ministry of Health has continuously discovered fake and poor quality drugs, cosmetics and products and requested localities to inspect cosmetics business activities on e-commerce trading floors and social networks such as TikTok, Zalo, Facebook, and YouTube.
Dr. Ta Manh Hung, Deputy Director of the Drug Administration Department, said that recently there have been many directives to strengthen the fight against counterfeit and poor quality goods. However, in reality, there are still cases of goods circulating on the market. One of the reasons is that the sanctions for violations are not strong enough to deter.
The Ministry of Health will strengthen management and inspection of pharmaceutical supply facilities, requiring goods to have full invoices and documents proving their origin before being imported and sold to the public. Strengthen inspection and supervision of pharmaceutical production and trading facilities, especially on e-commerce channels and social networks.
