Galaxy S25 Edge battery test results are extremely surprising

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge could be the most controversial phone of 2025 because of its super thin design but has a much smaller battery than other phones.

In fact, the 3,900 mAh battery on the S25 Edge doesn't match the 4,000 mAh battery on the Galaxy S25, a phone with an even smaller screen size.

This has made many people doubt whether the Galaxy S25 Edge's small battery can handle the phone's powerful system.

To answer this question, PhoneArena conducted three real-world battery tests and came to a conclusion.

Near the bottom of the table

Based on the comparison table with Samsung's same generation devices in terms of battery, the Galaxy S25 Edge does not show any outstanding performance, when its score is much lower than the S25 Plus of the same size and even lower than the small Galaxy S25.

In our web browsing test (the lightest battery test), the S25 Edge lasted 16 hours and 40 minutes , nearly two hours less than the Galaxy S25 and well behind the S25 Plus and S25 Ultra.

For YouTube video streaming, the S25 Edge got 7 hours and 44 minutes of battery life, which is slightly less than the smaller Galaxy S25 model.

And finally, for 3D gaming, the S25 Edge scored 9 hours and 38 minutes , which is significantly lower than other Galaxy S25 versions.

The test estimates users got around 6 hours and 22 minutes of total screen time on the Galaxy S25 Edge, which is less than the Galaxy S25, which is said to last around 7 hours.

In PhoneArena's overall battery rankings, the Galaxy S25 Edge ranked 87th among the phones the site has tested over the past two years. While not the last, it's still at the bottom of the rankings.

Interestingly, with an estimated total usage time of 6 hours and 22 minutes for the Galaxy S25 Edge, it still beats some popular mid-range phones like the iPhone 16e at 6 hours and 4 minutes, is higher than the Galaxy A35 at 6 hours and 12 minutes, and is on par with the Galaxy S24 FE at 6 hours and 20 minutes.

PhoneArena reviews that the battery life of Samsung's super-thin phone is not really impressive but not too bad either.

Still need backup battery

Writer John Velasco of Tom's Guide also conducted a real-world battery test on the Galaxy S25 Edge. After a day of use, he felt worried when the phone's battery drained much faster with each passing hour than other devices.

Tom's Guide's battery test uses standardized methods to ensure accurate results. It essentially simulates continuous web surfing on your phone with a cellular connection turned on, until the battery is completely drained.

This process was performed with the screen set at 150 nits of brightness, and the test results were consistent across all phones this site has tested in the past.

The Galaxy S25 Edge has significantly worse battery life than other S25 models in Tom's Guide's testing.

For the Galaxy S25 Edge, the average usage time was 12 hours and 38 minutes — significantly less than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Samsung's flagship lasted 17 hours and 14 minutes on the same test. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25, with its 4,000 mAh battery, lasted nearly 3 hours longer than the Edge.

Writer John Velasco asked Google Gemini to calculate the battery drain rate based on the above results. The numbers were 308.71 mAh/hour for the S25 Edge, 254.51 mAh/hour for the S25, and 290.13 mAh/hour for the S25 Ultra. It can be seen that the Galaxy S25 Edge is the least optimized device of the bunch.

The idea is that you can live with less battery life on a slim phone if you can compensate with charging speeds. However, despite having a smaller battery, the S25 Edge still charges a bit slower than the Galaxy S25. In fact, the S25 Edge's 25W wired charging speeds got the battery to 27% and 54% after 15 and 30 minutes of charging, respectively.

The Galaxy S25 Edge doesn't have the same fast charging speeds as the S25 Plus or Ultra.

What's worrying is that the rest of the Galaxy S25 lineup charges faster than the Edge. It would have been nice if Samsung had opted to give the S25 Edge the same 45W wired charging speeds as the S25 Plus and S25 Ultra.

Based on the two test results above from PhoneArena and Tom's Guide, it can be seen that battery life is the biggest trade-off for Samsung's new ultra-thin phone.

This is arguably to be expected given the size of the Galaxy S25 Edge's battery. Unless battery technology makes a revolutionary leap, there's no way the ultra-thin phones of the future will last longer than today's traditional phones.

"If you're willing to accept frequent charging, buying Samsung's ultra-thin phone shouldn't be a problem. However, you should probably invest in one of the best backup battery packs because trust me, you'll need it for the S25 Edge," advises John Velasco.
