According to the report on labor and employment situation of the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Planning and Investment), the average monthly income of workers in the fourth quarter of 2023 was 7.3 million VND, an increase of 180,000 VND compared to the third quarter of 2023 and an increase of 444,000 VND compared to the same period last year.

In 2023, the average income of workers nationwide will be 7.1 million VND/month.

Of which, the average monthly income of male workers is 1.35 times higher than the average monthly income of female workers (8.3 million VND compared to 6.1 million VND). The average monthly income of workers in urban areas is 1.41 times higher than that in rural areas (8.9 million VND compared to 6.3 million VND).

Compared to the third quarter of 2023, the lives of workers in the fourth quarter of 2023 have improved. The reason is that in the last months of the year, many businesses increase production and business; the average income growth rate of workers is often higher than the previous quarter, the lives of workers will improve.

In 2023, the average monthly income of workers is 7.1 million VND, an increase of 6.9%, equivalent to an increase of 459,000 VND compared to 2022. The average monthly income of male workers is 8.1 million VND, 1.36 times higher than the average monthly income of female workers (6 million VND). The average income of workers in urban areas is 1.4 times higher than that of rural areas (8.7 million VND compared to 6.2 million VND).

The income growth rate of workers in the Red River Delta is the highest.

According to the General Statistics Office, compared to the previous quarter and the same period last year, the average income of workers in the fourth quarter of 2023 increased in all socio -economic regions of the country; in which, the Red River Delta had the highest growth rate. The average monthly income of workers in the Red River Delta in the fourth quarter of 2023 was VND 8.7 million, an increase of 3.5% (equivalent to an increase of VND 297,000) compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 8.2% (equivalent to VND 656,000) compared to the same period last year.

Workers' income in some provinces in this region recorded a high growth rate compared to the same period last year, such as: workers in Thai Binh province had an average income of 7.6 million VND/month, an increase of 11.9% (equivalent to an increase of 806,000 VND); in Ha Nam it was 7.4 million VND/month, an increase of 10.7% (equivalent to an increase of 709,000 VND); in Nam Dinh it was 7.3 million VND/month, an increase of 10.4% (equivalent to an increase of 686,000 VND); in Hai Phong it was 8.8 million VND/month, an increase of 7.4% (equivalent to an increase of 610,000 VND).

Meanwhile, the average monthly income of workers in the Southeast region was VND9.0 million, up 2.3% (equivalent to an increase of VND202,000) compared to the previous quarter and up 3.6% (equivalent to an increase of VND312,000) compared to the same period last year.

The Southeast region recorded the lowest growth rate of average monthly income of workers compared to the same period last year. In particular, some large provinces and cities with many industrial parks recorded a rather low growth rate of average monthly income such as: average income of workers in Dong Nai was 8.9 million VND, up 1.6% (equivalent to an increase of 138,000 VND) compared to the same period last year; in Ho Chi Minh City it was 9.4 million VND, up 1.9% (equivalent to an increase of 175,000).

In addition, some other provinces in the region recorded a fairly high average income growth rate in the fourth quarter of 2023, such as: in Ba Ria - Vung Tau it was 8.7 million VND, an increase of 12.8%, equivalent to an increase of 982,000 VND compared to the same period in 2022; in Binh Duong it was 9.5 million VND, an increase of 6.4%, equivalent to an increase of 567,000 VND.

Compared to the same period last year, the average monthly income of workers in the fourth quarter of 2023 in all three economic sectors increased. Of which, the service sector recorded the highest growth rate of VND 8.7 million, up 7.3%, equivalent to an increase of VND 589,000; in the agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector, it was VND 4.2 million, up 5.3%, equivalent to an increase of VND 212,000; in the industry and construction sector, it was VND 8.1 million, up 4.5%, equivalent to an increase of VND 350,000.

Along with the increase in income, the unemployment situation in the fourth quarter of 2023 also improved. The number of unemployed people of working age in the fourth quarter of 2023 was about 1.06 million, down 16,000 people compared to the previous quarter and down 18,900 people compared to the same period in 2022.
