Recognizing the market demand for high-quality broiler chickens, in 2014, Mr. Nguyen Manh Son, from Vu Xa village, Tong Phan commune (Phu Cu district), switched from raising white-feathered chickens to raising free-range hybrid Ri chickens.

Mr. Son said: "With the existing poultry farm and years of experience in raising chickens, I didn't have to spend much on investment when I switched to the free-range chicken farming model. To implement the free-range chicken farming model, I renovated nearly one acre of garden into a free-range area. The breed of chicken my family chose to raise is the Ri Lai breed. This is a healthy breed with fragrant and delicious meat, good resistance to disease, and is suitable for free-range conditions. When I first started, because I didn't have a firm grasp of the care techniques and the market, I only raised 500 chickens. Thanks to my diligence, willingness to learn from successful farming models, and the poultry farming training organized by the local authorities and relevant agencies, I made a profit from my first batch of chickens."
Starting with 500 chickens, Mr. Son now raises an average of 4,000 chickens annually. The time from raising to selling takes 4-5 months, and with good care, the chickens can reach 2-2.2 kg each. Using a staggered rearing method, he raises 2-3 batches of chickens per year. To ensure sustainable and efficient farming, he focuses on providing adequate nutrition, regularly supplementing vitamins and minerals, and vaccinating against diseases. In winter, he uses electric heaters, and in summer, fans to cool the chickens. The coops are well-ventilated. In addition, he uses biological bedding in the chicken coops to eliminate odors, keep the air dry and airy, and minimize the risk of dangerous diseases. Importantly, when the chickens are about 40 days old, he releases them into the garden. This improves the quality of the chickens. Depending on the time of year, the average selling price of chicken ranges from 80,000 to 90,000 VND per kg. With this selling price, after deducting expenses, Mr. Son earns an average profit of 150-200 million VND per year. During the chicken farming process, he also utilizes the chicken manure for agricultural purposes, thereby contributing to increased family income.
Thanks to his hard work and dedication in poultry farming, Mr. Son's family now enjoys a comfortable life and a stable income. In addition, he is always willing to support and share his free-range chicken farming experience with households within and outside the commune who need it.
