Grasping the market demand for high-quality broiler chickens, in 2014, Mr. Nguyen Manh Son, Vu Xa village, Tong Phan commune (Phu Cu) switched from raising white-feathered chickens to raising free-range hybrid chickens.

Mr. Son said: With the existing barn system and many years of experience in raising chickens, when I switched to the free-range chicken farming model, I did not have to spend much on investment. To implement the free-range chicken farming model, I converted nearly 1 sao of garden into a place to let the chickens roam. The breed of chicken my family chose to raise is the hybrid ri chicken. This is a healthy breed of chicken, with fragrant, delicious meat, good resistance and suitable for free-range conditions. When I first started raising chickens, because I did not have a good grasp of care techniques and the consumer market, I only raised 500 chickens. Thanks to my diligence, willingness to learn from effective farming models and being trained in poultry farming techniques organized by the locality and functional agencies, I made a profit from the first batch of chickens.
From the initial 500 chickens, up to now, on average, Mr. Son has maintained raising about 4,000 chickens each year. The time from raising to selling is 4-5 months. If well cared for, chickens can reach 2-2.2 kg/chicken. With the pillow raising method, he raises 2-3 batches of chickens each year. To raise chickens effectively and sustainably, he focuses on caring for and feeding them with adequate nutrition, periodically supplementing vitamins, minerals and vaccinating them against diseases. In winter, he uses electric heating, and in summer, he has fans to cool the chickens. The barn is arranged to be airy. In addition, he uses biological bedding in raising chickens to help deodorize, keep the barn air dry, and minimize the risk of dangerous epidemics. In particular, when the chickens are raised for about 40 days, he will release them into the garden. Thus, the quality of the chickens will be better. Depending on the time, the average selling price of chickens is from 80-90 thousand VND/kg. With this selling price, after deducting expenses, Mr. Son earns an average profit of 150-200 million VND per year. While raising chickens, he also sells chicken manure for farming. Thereby, contributing to increasing his family's income.
With diligence and hard work in raising livestock, Mr. Son's family's life has become well-off and has a stable source of income. In addition, he is also willing to support and share his experience in raising free-range chickens for households in and outside the commune who are in need.
