Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States at the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. Mr. Modi will preside over the International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India on June 16 issued a press release on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official visit to the US and Egypt from June 20-25.
The statement said that Prime Minister Modi will visit the United States at the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The visit will begin in New York, where Prime Minister Modi will preside over the International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters on June 21.
Prime Minister Modi will then travel to Washington, DC, where he will be welcomed at the White House on June 22 and meet President Biden for high-level talks. President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will host a State Dinner in honour of Prime Minister Modi later that evening.
Prime Minister Modi will address a joint session of the US Congress on June 22.
Apart from the official engagements, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to attend select engagements with top CEOs, experts and other stakeholders, and meet members of the Indian diaspora.
Also scheduled, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Cairo, paying a visit to Egypt from June 24-25. The visit is being conducted at the official invitation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in January 2023 when he was honored to be the “Chief Guest” at India’s Republic Day celebrations. This will be Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to Egypt.
In addition to holding talks with President Fattah El-Sisi, Prime Minister Modi will interact with senior officials of the Egyptian Government, several prominent Egyptian figures, as well as the Indian community in Egypt.
During President Fattah El-Sisi's visit to India in January 2023, the two sides agreed to upgrade their bilateral relationship to a “Strategic Partnership”.
