On January 15, at 10 Downing Street, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed and held talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who was visiting London.

The two sides discussed closer cooperation and upgrading the relationship to a strategic partnership in trade and investment,education , clean energy and defence. The two prime ministers agreed that now was the right time to strengthen the UK-Malaysia relationship.
Mr Starmer and Mr Ibrahim agreed on a shared ambition for economic growth, with the UK prime minister reaffirming the advantages of the country's investment environment.
He welcomed the £4 billion (about $4.88 billion) investment by YTL businesses announced by Prime Minister Anwar, expressing confidence that this investment will benefit the people of Bristol, creating 30,000 jobs and building new homes on waste land.
The two sides stressed their shared commitment to net zero emissions ambitions and noted that clean energy will support future growth in both countries.
On this occasion, as a dialogue partner of ASEAN, Prime Minister Starmer welcomed Malaysia to assume the Chairmanship of the bloc in 2025.
Both leaders emphasised their shared commitment to building a strong UK-ASEAN Partnership, underpinned by respect for ASEAN’s role in maintaining a prosperous and peaceful Indo-Pacific region.
