On the afternoon of April 27, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh officially launched Workers' Month - Month of action on occupational safety and hygiene in 2023.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that in recent years, our country's workforce has made remarkable progress in both quantity and quality. Currently, there are over 52 million workers, many of whom are experts with regional and international qualifications.
Vietnamese workers are gradually taking on complex tasks that previously required foreign experts. The labor structure has shifted positively. The quality of human resources increasingly meets the needs of the market and businesses, and labor productivity has been raised.

The system of institutions, mechanisms and policies on labor continues to be improved. Basic labor standards are guaranteed, especially in terms of hygiene and safety; those who unfortunately suffer from work-related accidents or occupational diseases are cared for and guaranteed benefits.
Workers' salaries and incomes have improved significantly. The average income of workers in the first quarter of 2023 was 7 million VND/month, an increase of more than 600,000 VND compared to the same period last year.
The Head of Government stated that the Vietnamese working class is constantly growing, becoming more dynamic and proactive in production and business. It continues to affirm its core role in socio-economic development.
Political awareness and workers' qualifications are constantly improving, forming a class of young workers who are well-trained, highly skilled, knowledgeable about the law, always innovative, and capable of meeting the needs of the domestic market and deeply integrating internationally.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the role of trade unions at all levels continues to be promoted. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor always cares for the lives of workers; proactively recommends and proposes to the Party and State many mechanisms and policies, making an important contribution to solving employment, improving material and spiritual life, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said: "We are living and working in a world and region with many rapid, complex and unpredictable changes. The 4th industrial revolution, digital transformation, automation, use of robots, artificial intelligence... are increasing pressure on cutting working hours and jobs, directly affecting workers."
Meanwhile, a part of the freelance workers do not have stable jobs, many workers have lost their jobs, reduced working hours, especially over the past 2 years of the Covid-19 pandemic, disrupted the world's production supply chain, and our country's large and traditional export markets have narrowed. The demand for housing and basic facilities of workers and laborers has not been met as required.
Workers play a very important role
According to the Prime Minister, compliance with regulations on hygiene and safety at many establishments is not strict; occupational diseases are still complicated; the situation of work accidents has not improved, there are still serious accidents that kill and injure many people, especially in the fields of construction, electricity, coal mining, minerals and production, wood processing, metallurgy, etc.
"The Party and State understand, sympathize and share the problems faced by workers and laborers; at the same time, they always pay attention and issue mechanisms and policies to support and create better conditions for workers," Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized.
Affirming that in the new development stage, the working class is a great social force with a very important role. To successfully carry out this important task, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that it is necessary to firmly maintain the goal of stabilizing the macro economy, controlling inflation, promoting growth, ensuring major balances, and promoting sustainable development.
Actively and proactively remove difficulties and obstacles for production and business activities, promote start-ups, innovation, diversify economic sectors, create more jobs and livelihoods for people.
In addition, the head of the Government requested to ensure sustainable employment, raise living standards, and improve working conditions for workers. In addition, focus on effectively implementing the preferential credit package of 120,000 billion VND for the development of social housing, workers' housing, and renovation of old apartments.
In addition to early finding fundamental solutions to improve national labor productivity, promoting the development of a flexible, modern, efficient, sustainable and integrated labor market. Building and implementing a strategy for human resource development, especially high-quality human resources, paying attention to remote, border, island and ethnic minority areas.
Raise awareness of the importance and effectively implement occupational safety and hygiene for workers and employers. Continue to improve working conditions, proactively prevent occupational accidents and diseases, especially for female workers. Regarding the Vietnam Trade Union, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that the Trade Union should focus on taking care of and performing well its role as a representative to protect the legal and legitimate rights and interests of union members; represent workers in negotiating and signing collective labor agreements; and actively contribute to supplementing and perfecting labor policies and laws.

Determination to control occupational accidents
President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang said that with the goal of focusing the highest resources to effectively implement activities in "Workers' Month 2023", determined to control occupational accidents and diseases; protect human resources as the most valuable asset of each enterprise and each country, towards a safe, highly productive production, fulfilling social responsibilities.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang suggested that all levels, sectors, and enterprises coordinate with the Trade Union and the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to organize activities well, practically respond to and concretize the themes "Connecting workers - Building organizations" and "Strengthening the development of safe working procedures and measures and improving working conditions, reducing workplace stress" of Workers' Month and Action Month on occupational safety and hygiene in 2023.

At the launching ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded 8 gifts to workers who suffered from work-related accidents and occupational diseases, each gift including 5 million VND in cash and 500,000 VND in kind.
