Prime Minister approves planning for Ngu Hanh Son scenic spot

Da Nang Ngu Hanh Son scenic spot will become a cultural space, organizing festivals combined with a unique entertainment spot of the city.

According to the Decision approved by the Prime Minister on July 11, Ngu Hanh Son scenic spot in Hoa Hai ward, Ngu Hanh Son district has a total planning area of 1,049,701 m2. The east of the scenic spot borders Truong Sa street and coastal resorts, the west borders Co Co river, the south borders Co Co river and the current residential area, the north borders Pham Huu Nhat street and the resettlement area.

Regarding functional zoning, the Prime Minister adjusted and expanded the scope of protected area I of the scenic spot to 189,821 m2, including the landscape area of 6 mountains (Kim Son, Moc Son, Thuy Son, Tho Son, Duong Hoa Son, Am Hoa Son), Ghenh mountain (8,373 m2) and the rocky mountain southeast of Am Hoa Son (328 m2).

The scenic spot has valuable religious and architectural works, relics, houses combined with stone art business, functional areas, specialized green spaces, water surface, statue garden, memorial temple for martyrs and heroic Vietnamese mothers.

Regarding spatial planning and landscape architecture, the Prime Minister gave directions for forming an East-West landscape and festival culture axis connecting the sea space, Ngu Hanh Son scenic area, Co Co River and a green landscape axis connecting Thuy Son and Moc Son.

The Prime Minister requested the preservation of all outstanding values of the Ngu Hanh Son scenic spot, including the limestone mountain system, caves and the Ma Nhai stele system (inscriptions carved on the cliffs recognized by UNESCO as a documentary heritage of the Asia- Pacific region).

Da Nang City and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism are assigned to preserve and promote the value of the Quan The Am Ngu Hanh Son festival, the memorial service for the founder of the Non Nuoc stone craft, the Khue Bac communal house festival, and at the same time restore a number of other traditional festivals of local residents.

According to the Prime Minister's decision, the entire landscape space of the protected area I of the scenic spot is protected in its original state, with boundary markers placed and a 20m-wide specialized green buffer zone established around it; a part of the residential area combined with the stone art business on Huyen Tran Cong Chua and Non Nuoc streets is renovated and cleared to create a landscape axis connecting Thuy Son and Moc Son peaks.

The north side of Thuy Son mountain will be dredged, embellished, and the vegetation will be preserved and the landscape will be supplemented with trees in the lake area; a reception center, a travel and information center, a management office, a tourist car park and an electric car to pick up and drop off visitors will be built. In the south, Huyen Tran Cong Chua street will be renovated, the sidewalks will be widened, trees will be planted, a statue garden park will be built, a walking path will be combined with a souvenir shop and rest stops will be arranged with the highlight being the former "King Minh Mang's Rest Stop".

At Moc Son, Kim Son and Hoa Son peaks, there will be a specialized green space, forming a space for stone sculpture performances, sightseeing and experiencing the completion of souvenir products of traditional stone craft villages.

The Prime Minister also requested the renovation and improvement of existing traffic routes and the formation of a number of internal traffic routes; research and investment in the construction of two underpasses on Le Van Hien Street connecting the East-West festival axis and one underpass on Truong Sa Street serving pedestrians, connecting the space towards the East Sea.

Outside the planning boundary, the landscape space on the sandbank on Co Co River and the vacant land east of Truong Sa Street will also be renovated to match the overall landscape architecture of the scenic area.

Regarding investment phases, the 2023-2026 period will cover compensation, site clearance, resettlement, and boundary markers to protect the scenic area. The 2026-2030 period will focus on collecting and supplementing documents and artifacts; preserving and promoting the value of intangible cultural heritage; surveying, researching, and preserving the ecosystem. The projects will be completed from 2030-2050.

Ngu Hanh Son scenic spot is a cultural symbol of Da Nang city, recognized as a national cultural and historical relic in 1980.
