Looking back at history, Vietnam and Algeria have had a long-standing close relationship. In particular, Vietnam's Dien Bien Phu victory, which "resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world", was a great source of inspiration for the Algerian people. Immediately after the Dien Bien Phu victory (July 1954), the Algerian people rose up to fight for national independence (November 1954).

Algeria has two places bearing the name of President Ho Chi Minh: Ho Chi Minh Avenue in the capital Algiers and Ho Chi Minh Road in the center of Oran city.
Of which, Ho Chi Minh Avenue is 3 km long, located on the East-West axis of the capital Algiers. This is one of the main routes, attracting a large number of passersby.
These two roads are to honor President Ho Chi Minh, the great leader, national liberation hero, world cultural celebrity of Vietnam, who has always been respected and admired by the Algerian people for his sympathy and support for the Algerian national liberation struggle.

For the Algerian people, President Ho Chi Minh was a close friend and also a source of inspiration for the country's literature, including the poetic play "The Man in Rubber Sandals" written, staged and successfully performed in many countries by the famous Algerian writer Kateb Yacine in the early 1970s.
Every year, Ho Chi Minh Avenue in the capital city of Algiers is the venue for celebrations and events to strengthen the friendship between the people of Vietnam and Algeria. The Avenue is also where Vietnamese delegations visit when they come to Algeria, contributing to promoting comprehensive cooperation in many fields such as politics, economics, culture and education.
