Losing to Benfica, Bayern Munich 'avoided' Chelsea

Contrary to fans' expectations of a European battle, Bayern Munich only fielded a reserve team when facing Benfica in the final match of Group C, FIFA Club World Cup 2025 taking place on the morning of June 25 (Vietnam time).

But if they top Group C, Bayern Munich will likely face Chelsea - the team currently holding second place in Group D.

In Group D, Flamengo is certain to be the top team thanks to the victory over both direct competitors Chelsea and Esperance. If there are no other surprises (in the match taking place at 8am this morning), Chelsea will secure the ticket with the second position in the group.

The match between the two teams was interrupted at the beginning of the second half due to the weather, at that time the score was 1-1, and Benfica was leading Bayern Munich. That information seemed to make the Argentine team give up before the amateur opponent.

With this result, Bayern Munich confirmed that they will meet Flamengo in the round of 16. Benfica's opponent will be one of two teams, Chelsea or Esperance.
