The match against Binh Duong Club in round 12 of V-League 2023 on the evening of June 25 is a golden opportunity for Viettel Club to win all 3 points, thereby narrowing the gap with the top group. The opponent of coach Thach Bao Khanh and his team is sinking in the danger zone and has problems from defense to attack. Meanwhile, Viettel Club, although not showing much this season, still has a squad of national players such as Tien Anh, Hoang Duc, along with the presence of rookie Mohamed Essam.

Hoang Duc faced controversy from his opponent.
With the home field advantage, Viettel Club took the initiative to attack, putting pressure on Binh Duong's goal. However, coach Le Huynh Duc's students defended quite well with a disciplined defense. Thanks to the tight defense in the middle, Binh Duong Club forced Viettel Club to pass the ball out to the sideline and then cross it in. The home team's opportunities in the first half mainly came from high balls with headers from Thanh Binh or Duc Chien.
The turning point came in the 22nd minute, when Essam made a wall and then passed the ball to Tien Anh who was running up the sideline. Tien Anh made a cross that went past Binh Duong defender Du Dat. Referee Tran Ngoc Nho immediately pointed to the 11m mark. This was a controversial decision.
On the penalty spot, Duc Chien defeated goalkeeper Minh Toan with a tricky shot, opening the score for Viettel team.

The goal helped Viettel FC play with excitement. With good attacking power on both flanks when Tien Anh and Van Hao penetrated well, the home team at Hang Day Stadium forced Binh Duong FC into a difficult defense. Newcomer Essam also played aggressively when constantly stirring up the opponent, but had no luck scoring. Besides the left-footed shot that forced goalkeeper Minh Toan to dive to save the goal in the 34th minute, Essam also had another right-footed shot but the ball went quite far over the crossbar.
Missing many opportunities, Viettel Club unexpectedly conceded a goal at the end of the first half. Goalkeeper Van Phong rushed out to catch the ball, but let it slip when it landed. Quang Hung was there at the right time to finish close to the goal, bringing the equalizer for Binh Duong Club.

In the second half, Binh Duong Club returned to a defensive counter-attacking position, waiting for their opponents to make mistakes. However, coach Le Huynh Duc's players failed to maintain their concentration. In the 64th minute, a Binh Duong defender indecisively cleared the ball in front of the penalty area. Duc Chien rushed in with a powerful long-range shot, but although the ball went right to the position Minh Toan had chosen, the goalkeeper was confused and let the ball fly into the net.
Duc Chien's goal made the match more exciting in the last 20 minutes, when both Viettel and Binh Duong played offensively. In the 68th minute, Hai Quan from the away team took a difficult free kick, but the ball went just wide of the post. 3 minutes later, Hai Quan took another left-footed shot, but goalkeeper Van Phong caught the ball.
Despite having both Tien Linh and Rimario, with their disjointed play, Binh Duong FC could not find more goals at Hang Day Stadium. Losing 1-2 on aggregate at Hang Day Stadium, the team led by coach Le Huynh Duc ranked 13th with 7 points, only above the bottom team Da Nang thanks to a better goal difference. On the contrary, Viettel FC rose to 4th with 18 points, certainly in the championship race in the second phase.
