Promoting sovereign AI in Vietnam

The Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Day AI4VN 2024 brings together AI experts, scientists , and leading technology companies from Vietnam and internationally to discuss the latest trends in the field of artificial intelligence.

At this year's event,FPT Group presented unique perspectives on sovereign AI and infrastructure resources to promote AI applications and enhance the competitiveness of the Vietnamese economy. FPT representatives emphasized the importance of building an AI ecosystem based on Vietnamese data, thereby protecting national interests and creating real value for the economy.

Mr. Le Hong Viet, CEO of FPT Smart Cloud, affirmed: “The current national competitiveness is not based on people, but on people combined with AI. A sovereign AI promotion strategy will help Vietnam increase national competitiveness through increased labor productivity and automation. Sovereign AI also helps protect data and human resources from dependence on the technology of major economies, ensuring Vietnam's digital independence and sovereignty.”

The CEO of FPT Smart Cloud stated that FPT is ready to commit to promoting sovereign AI in Vietnam.

Facing the significant opportunities and challenges presented by AI, Mr. Viet emphasized that FPT Smart Cloud promotes autonomous AI, encompassing five major pillars: infrastructure, data, technology platform, human resources, and the business ecosystem. The $200 million investment in collaboration with NVIDIA to build an AI Factory in March 2024 demonstrates the group's determination to be self-reliant in infrastructure, master data, and promote AI research and development. FPT has also put into operation an Artificial Intelligence Research Center in Quy Nhon with over 5,000 employees.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. Tran The Trung - Deputy Director of AI Product Division, FPT Smart Cloud, and Director of FPT Research Institute - stated: “AI, especially generative AI, requires significantly larger computing infrastructure than traditional AI, and this is a barrier for Vietnamese businesses in accessing this technology. Generative AI is expected to contribute $14 trillion to Vietnam's digital economy by 2030. Clearly, to maximize the benefits of generative AI, the government and businesses need to focus on finding solutions for building high-performance computing infrastructure, including investing in semiconductor chip manufacturing, electricity and energy pricing policies, and strengthening telecommunications infrastructure.”

At the AI ​​Awards 2024 ceremony, FPT AI Mentor, a solution developed by FPT Smart Cloud, won the "Outstanding AI Solution" award. Built on AI generation technology and applying Adaptive Micro-learning methods, FPT AI Mentor automates and personalizes employee training processes using AI, improving the quality of employee training and enhancing their knowledge and capabilities.

Currently, the solution has over 20,000 regular learners each month, with a knowledge base of hundreds of thousands of questions in the retail sectors of pharmaceuticals, fashion, and electronics, helping to improve the consulting and sales capabilities of the team by an average of 36%.
