The merger of Dak Lak and Phu Yen provinces into the new Dak Lak province has opened up a new development space by combining and promoting economic linkages between the Central Highlands and the South Central Coast. From there, it has created conditions and development momentum for Dak Lak province to reach out.
After the merger, Dak Lak province has a natural area of 18,096.40 km2, ranking third among 34 provinces and cities; has 102 administrative units at commune and ward level with a population of more than 3.3 million people; has a border of more than 71 km and a coastline of 189 km. At the same time, Dak Lak is located in the middle of the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam development triangle, with many favorable conditions for developing high-value agriculture; developing marine economy , high-end resort tourism, favorable international trade and cooperation. The province has an inter-regional transport system that has been and is being invested in synchronously, the north-south railway and high-speed railway will be invested in the coming time... forming an inter-provincial and inter-regional logistics network.
Dak Lak province will orient its development into a new industrial center with international border gates and seaports, focusing on developing high value-added industries such as metallurgy, petrochemical refining, renewable energy, large data centers, logistics, etc. In the eastern region, the focus will be on building and developing the Southern Phu Yen Economic Zone into a multi-industry, multi-functional economic zone with a focus on high-tech industries, industries associated with promoting the advantages of seaports and linking development between the provinces in the Central Coast region to form a unified entity. In the western region, the focus will be on developing large-scale, high-quality agricultural and forestry products, targeting the export market, focusing on promoting the strengths of industrial crops and fruit trees with high economic value such as coffee, pepper, rubber, durian, etc.
“Dak Lak is known as the “coffee capital” with its vast expanse of fertile basalt land, while Phu Yen (formerly) has the advantage of being the “gateway to the East Sea”, with bays, beaches, beautiful and unique landscapes, rich seafood and potential seaport infrastructure. This combination creates the foundation for multi-sector and multi-field development from high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, deep processing industry, logistics associated with seaports to tourism, services… for Dak Lak province to reach far”, Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee Ta Anh Tuan expected.
According to experts, the merger and consolidation of Dak Lak and Phu Yen provinces into Dak Lak (new) province will open up new space to maximize comparative advantages and mutual support between localities, promote economic and regional linkages, and create new space, conditions and development potential for the province. Because both provinces are localities with special geographical locations in the Central Highlands and Central Coast.
The ethnic groups of the two provinces have a long tradition of revolution, solidarity, self-reliance, and the will to overcome difficulties. Now, the merger creates a connection in economic, cultural and historical flows, expanding the space for diverse development in terms of nature, economy and culture in a sustainable and effective manner.
At the recent ceremony to announce the Central Committee's resolutions and decisions on merging provincial-level administrative units in Dak Lak, comrade Le Hoai Trung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chief of the Party Central Committee Office, expected: "With the harmonious convergence of favorable conditions of time, place and people, we have every reason to believe that the new Dak Lak province will rise to become a new growth pole of the Central Highlands and South Central Coast, a multi-dimensional center of economy, culture, education, health, tourism and logistics; a vivid model of harmonious, sustainable development imbued with national identity in the new era, actively contributing to the common development of the region and the whole country".
Dak Lak Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dinh Trung affirmed: “The merger of Dak Lak and Phu Yen provinces into Dak Lak (new) province and the operation of a two-level government is a strategic decision, creating a breakthrough momentum for the locality to more effectively exploit its potential in terms of land, resources and labor; improve competitiveness, strongly attract large-scale, high-tech investment projects, promote growth to rise up with the whole country”.
According to Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee Ta Anh Tuan, with the aspiration for innovation and development, on the basis of available position and strength, together with the attention and support of the Central Government and the determination and consensus of the entire political system, people and businesses, in the period of 2026-2030, Dak Lak province will strive for an average GRDP growth of 11-11.5%/year, bringing the economy and society to develop rapidly and sustainably; improving the material and spiritual life of the people to reach the average level of the whole country on the basis of exploiting and promoting to the maximum the cultural identity of ethnic groups, the potentials, advantages and space of new development space.
According to comrade Le Hoai Trung, “The road ahead is a journey with many great tasks to be implemented, many new tasks that are very important and promising. With the tradition of solidarity, resilience and spirit of innovation and creativity of the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Dak Lak province; together with the close leadership and timely support of the Central Government, it is certain that the potentials and advantages of Dak Lak will be realized through strong development steps, bringing Dak Lak to become a dynamic growth pole, playing a leading role in the Central Highlands and South Central Coast regions, and moving the whole country into a new era”.
