The delegation included members of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee: Chairman of the City Party Committee's Inspection Committee Hoang Trong Quyet, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan and leaders of departments and branches of Hanoi City.
Wishing to promote cooperation in potential fields
During the working program, the Hanoi high-ranking delegation had meetings and worked with leaders of South African localities; deployed a series of promotional activities to connect opportunities and cooperation potentials between Hanoi and South African localities.
On October 27, the Hanoi delegation paid a courtesy visit and worked with the leaders of the Tshwane City Government - the administrative capital of South Africa. Mr. Eugene Modise - Deputy Mayor of Tshwane City hosted the reception and gave the delegation a warm and sincere welcome.
Speaking at the meeting, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen expressed her delight at the progress in the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and South Africa since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1993. Regarding local-level cooperation, Hanoi and Tshwane city signed a Friendship and Cooperation Agreement in November 2007.
Through updated information on the socio -economic situation of each side, the leaders of the two capitals affirmed their interest in promoting cooperation in potential areas, including trade, culture, education, tourism, as well as promoting exchanges at all levels. At the same time, they wished to maintain and promote the good friendship and cooperation between Hanoi and Tshwane to develop more deeply and substantially. Hanoi wishes to work with the Tshwane City Government as well as coordinate through the Vietnamese Embassy in South Africa to promote connections between the business communities of the two sides, and promote potential cooperation opportunities.
Mr. Eugene Modise - Deputy Mayor of Tshwane City emphasized that the significance of the delegation's visit is an affirmation of the good relationship foundation and the desire to develop strong cooperation in the future between the two capitals.
In response to your wishes and good feelings, on this occasion, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen sent an official invitation and hopes to welcome the Tshwane city leadership delegation to visit Hanoi as soon as possible.
In Cape Town, the delegation met with leaders of the Western Cape Provincial Government. Mr. Tertuis Simmers, Minister of Infrastructure of the Western Cape Province, welcomed the delegation and emphasized that the exchange activities of the delegation are important in promoting cooperation between localities of the two countries.
In recent times, delegation exchanges between localities of the two countries have been maintained and promoted, demonstrating the interest of local leaders in promoting cooperation and exchanges at all levels, with the desire to maintain and promote good friendship and cooperation. Hanoi has welcomed delegations from other countries, such as the delegation of the Governor of the Western Cape Province in 2017, the Premier of the Northern Cape Province in 2023, as well as organizing delegations at all levels to South Africa to exchange and learn from experiences.
At the meeting, leaders of Hanoi and Western Cape exchanged updated information on the socio-economic situation of each locality, urban development and management policies. The Western Cape provincial government is currently prioritizing the areas of infrastructure development, social security and promoting the expansion of foreign relations and cooperation.
With the strengths of the Western Cape province in tourism development, trade, clean energy, manufacturing, and high-quality agriculture, Hanoi City wishes to exploit and further expand the potential for cooperation between the two sides and will continue to promote information to businesses to learn about and expand investment opportunities in South African localities. Leaders of both sides believe that this visit of the delegation will continue to lay the foundation for exchanges and expand extensive cooperation between the two localities in various fields.
Within the framework of this series of investment and trade promotion activities in South African localities, the delegation met and worked with Mr. Mtho Xulu - President of the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) in Johannesburg; Mr. John Lawson - Executive Director of the Cape Town Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Cape Town.
At the meetings, the two sides exchanged and discussed information on Hanoi's orientation to attract foreign investment, development potential and promoting cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and tourism between Hanoi and South African localities in general and between businesses of the two countries in particular.
Leaders of the local Chambers of Commerce and Industry affirmed that they will continue to promote their role as a bridge, promote information exchange, connect interested South African businesses, promote investment in Vietnam as well as Hanoi, towards further promoting partnerships for cooperation and development.
Promote networking opportunities and trade promotion
In order to promote connection opportunities and exploit the strengths and cooperation potential of South Africa, the largest economy in Africa and a major trade partner of Vietnam, on October 29, Hanoi City coordinated with the Vietnamese Embassy in South Africa and the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) to co-organize the "Vietnam - South Africa Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Conference 2024: Hanoi Destination - Opportunities and Cooperation Potential" in the city of Johannerburg.
The conference was chaired by Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen; Standing Member, Head of the Hanoi Party Committee's Inspection Commission Hoang Trong Quyet; Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan; Mr. Hoang Sy Cuong - Vietnamese Ambassador to South Africa; Hanoi delegation. In particular, there were nearly 200 invited delegates from South Africa, including Mr. Mtho Xulu - President of the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) and many South African businesses in the fields of investment, trade and tourism.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen affirmed that Hanoi attaches importance to and identifies South Africa as an important partner in Africa, with great potential for cooperation and much room for development in the fields of investment, trade and tourism between Hanoi and South African localities and partners. The investment promotion conference was held in South Africa with the desire to promote the image and safe and effective investment environment of Hanoi to strengthen connectivity and promote investment, trade and tourism between Hanoi and South Africa. Hanoi is always interested and ready to create the best conditions for South African businesses and investors who wish to learn about investment and business in Hanoi.
Representing South African businesses, President of the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mtho Xulu expressed his desire to promote some potential cooperation with Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general, especially the opportunities that will come from areas that will promote economic development such as minerals, agricultural processing, ICT technology development, as well as services and developing service industries.
All parties believe that after this Conference, the cooperative relationship between Hanoi in particular, Vietnamese localities in general and South African partners in the fields of investment, trade and tourism will be tightened and strongly developed in the coming time.
Also during the working trip, the high-ranking delegation of Hanoi visited, met and exchanged with officials of the Vietnamese Embassy in South Africa. At the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to South Africa Hoang Sy Cuong informed the delegation about the development results in the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and South Africa, emphasizing the results of local-level cooperation between Hanoi and South African cities and localities, as well as the strengths that Hanoi can take advantage of and promote more substantive and effective cooperation.
At the meeting, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen hoped that the Ambassador as well as the Embassy staff would continue to pay attention to promoting the exchange of delegations at all levels, people-to-people exchanges, and boosting cooperation in tourism, economy, investment, trade, education and training between Hanoi and localities and potential South African partners.
