According to Lao Dong Newspaper, up to this point, authorities have recorded 345 cases including local residents and tourists hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning after eating chicken rice at Tram Anh restaurant in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province. And there are still 201 cases being treated in the hospital.
Tram Anh Chicken Rice Restaurant is one of the famous and long-standing culinary spots in Nha Trang. This restaurant is very popular with locals and tourists. Every day, the restaurant serves hundreds of chicken rice dishes.
The fact that 345 locals and tourists were poisoned after eating at a restaurant has once again sounded the red alarm about food safety in tourist cities.
In 2023, Vietnamese tourism had a "bloody lesson" - the words used by Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee when Phuong Banh Mi shop in this locality had a series of food poisoning incidents with foreign tourists.
This poisoning incident not only “killed” a brand called “Phuong bread”, but also directly affected tourism not only in Hoi An but also in the Central region and the whole country.
More alarmingly, the risk of dirty food is still looming, and can come from any restaurant, as recently, local authorities in the Central region have continuously arrested and handled establishments selling dirty food.
Most recently in Thua Thien Hue, authorities have continuously “busted” 3 establishments selling dirty pork and beef. Among them, there was a facility with tons of dirty meat in cold storage!
We should always remind and warn each other that similar poisoning cases like Phuong bread or Tram Anh chicken rice can happen to anyone, in any locality if the current rampant sale of dirty food is not controlled. That dirty food not only directly affects human health but also "destroys" the tourism industry.
To minimize this, there is no other way but for authorities to tighten management, inspection, and supervision of street food shops and businesses.
In particular, violations of the law on animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, food safety and hygiene, goods without invoices or documents, goods of unknown origin... must be handled as strictly as possible, even criminally as a deterrent if there is sufficient basis and evidence of signs of crime.
“ASEAN Clean Tourist City” is one of the noble titles and awards that three tourist cities including Hue, Quy Nhon and Vung Tau have just been recognized within the framework of the Southeast Asia Tourism Forum - ATF earlier this year. And this is also the award that all tourist cities in the country are aiming for.
However, “ASEAN Clean Tourist City” in the sense of less waste, fresh air… is only a necessary condition. It is only clean on the outside. The sufficient condition is to be clean on the inside.
Clean inside, many things need to be clean. But the most important thing is how to ensure that tourists, and of course the locals, always eat and drink in the most hygienic and clean way possible!
