Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu, residing in Cho Lach district (Ben Tre province), said that about 2 weeks ago, traders from the North came to her family's garden to discuss buying flowers to bring back to the North to sell during Tet 2025.
"Unlike previous years, traders often paid a deposit of 1/3 or even half of the flower purchase price. But this year they only paid a very small part. With more than 2,000 baskets of chrysanthemums, they agreed to buy at 180,000 VND/pair, but so far they have only paid a deposit of 20 million VND," said Ms. Thu.
Previously, more than 2,000 baskets of chrysanthemums of Mr. Trinh Minh Thong (Vinh Thanh commune, Cho Lach district, Ben Tre province) were also sought after by Northern traders.
According to Mr. Thong, in previous years, traders would buy at the beginning of December, but this year, at the beginning of October of the lunar calendar, his garden of more than 2,000 baskets of chrysanthemums has been reserved at the price of 180,000 VND/pair, 10,000 VND/pair higher than last year. However, traders only deposited a very small portion, much less than before.
He also shared that this year he used flower seeds from tissue culture plants of Ben Tre Province's Seed and Ornamental Flower Center, so the plants grew well, the investment cost was reduced by 30-40% compared to buying seedlings from traditional cuttings, so the profit increased significantly.
According to traders who buy raspberry chrysanthemums in Cho Lach, the number of flowers that meet the demand of the Northern market is very small, so this year they have to search for gardens to deposit to buy early.
However, because last year the flower quality was not up to standard, traders were worried so this year they only deposited a very small amount in advance.

1.5 million Tet raspberry chrysanthemum baskets
Mr. Tran Huu Nghi, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cho Lach District (Ben Tre Province), said that this year the whole district has about 4.5 million flower products blooming to serve the Tet flower market, including about 1.5 million baskets of chrysanthemums.
"This year, traders bought flowers very early, but they only deposited a very small amount of money. They were worried that the quality of the flowers would not meet requirements," said Mr. Nghi.
