Traders come to the garden to buy fruit.

With over 1,600 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds, yielding over 20,000 tons/year, Chieng Mung commune is one of the localities with the largest fruit tree output in the province. At this time, farmers in the commune are focusing on taking care of longan and dragon fruit, ensuring productivity and quality of the crop.

Following the leaders of Chieng Mung commune, we visited the family of Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, village 7, right when the family was harvesting dragon fruit. In the yard, traders came to buy, pack and ship the goods to the wholesale market.

Mr. Mau Tien Cuong, a trader in Mai Son commune, said: I am purchasing dragon fruit at 14-15 thousand VND/kg to sell in Hanoi , Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong. The advantages of Chieng Mung dragon fruit are its rich sweetness, beautiful appearance, and are popular in the market. In addition, depending on the season, I also purchase longan, mango, and plum from farmers in the commune to sell to customers in the northern provinces.

Leading us to the longan and dragon fruit orchards laden with fruit, Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, village 7, shared: In 2015, seeing the effective longan growing model in Chieng Khoong, Chieng Khuong and the dragon fruit growing model in Na Bo commune bringing high economic efficiency, I bought seeds to plant, learned grafting techniques and installed an automatic irrigation system to reduce labor. Currently, with 2 hectares of longan and dragon fruit, each year, I harvest nearly 40 tons of fruit, earning a profit of more than 200 million VND.

Arriving at Hoang Van Thu village, along both sides of the road are gardens of dragon fruit and longan laden with fruit, equipped with irrigation systems that are convenient for care and harvesting. Mr. Ha Xuan Tu, Secretary of the village Party Cell, said: The village has 201 households and nearly 800 people. Every year, the village management board mobilizes people to take advantage of land and convert production towards efficiency and sustainability. Currently, the whole village grows nearly 84.6 hectares of fruit trees: longan, mango, custard apple, dragon fruit. Thanks to that, the average income reaches nearly 60 million VND/person/year; there are no more poor households; security and order are maintained. In 2023, the village will meet the standards of a model new rural area.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Tai, Hoang Van Thu village, said: Since 2020, my family has renovated 2 hectares of coffee land to intercrop with longan trees; and planted nearly 1 hectare of dragon fruit. This economic model has brought my family an income of more than 220 million VND/year.

Chieng Mung commune was established on the basis of merging 3 communes: Chieng Mung, Muong Bang and Muong Bon, with an area of 142 km², population of 27,797 people. The commune has a convenient traffic location with more than 10 km of National Highway 6 passing through, along with National Highway 4G and a road system meeting new rural standards. The flat terrain, fertile land, create favorable conditions for agricultural development, tourism, trade and investment attraction.

Mr. Tran Xuan Hiep, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng Mung Commune, said: The commune has promoted the promotion of the benefits of organic production, applying high technology to change the mindset and production methods of the people. At the same time, applying support policies, calling on businesses, cooperatives and people to invest in developing fruit tree material areas according to organic standards, VietGAP; building brands, aiming for sustainable production, high economic value.

Along with that, the commune coordinated with specialized agencies to organize training on pruning techniques, canopy shaping, fertilization, pest control, harvesting and post-harvest preservation. At the same time, propaganda was conducted to raise awareness of the safe use of pesticides and environmental protection.

Thanks to the support of the government and the proactive spirit of the people, the whole commune has over 1,600 hectares of fruit trees, concentrated in Hoang Van Thu village, village 7 and the villages: Nong Xom, Mat, Mai Tien, Thong Nhat, Na Sang. The main products are custard apple, grapefruit, longan, dragon fruit, banana... with an output of about 20,000 tons/year. Thanks to that, the product value reaches over 100 million VND/ha/year.

By bringing high-yield, high-quality and high-economic value crops into commercial production, farmers in Chieng Mung commune are realizing their dream of getting rich on their homeland and actively contributing to the local socio-economic development.
