( Bqp.vn ) – On the afternoon of July 23, at the Headquarters of the Philippine Ministry of National Defense , a delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense led by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense of Vietnam, paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr, Minister of National Defense of the Philippines.
At the reception, Minister Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. expressed his deep and sincere condolences to Vietnam on the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; emphasizing that this is a great loss and believing that Vietnam will soon overcome it to continue the country's development.

Minister Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. welcomed Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien and his delegation to visit the Philippines and attend the 6th Vietnam - Philippines Defense Policy Dialogue; at the same time, he affirmed that the Philippines attaches great importance to consolidating and enhancing the Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, and is determined to work with Vietnam to bring the bilateral relationship to a new height, in-depth, comprehensive, sustainable, and actively contributing to peace , stability and prosperous development of the region and the world.
For his part, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien affirmed that Vietnam and the Philippines are two neighboring countries sharing a maritime border and are both active and responsible members of the ASEAN Community. The upgrading of relations to a Strategic Partnership in 2015 and the visit to Vietnam by the Philippine President in January 2024 are important milestones, creating momentum and opportunities to develop the friendly relations between the two countries in an increasingly practical and effective manner.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien hopes to continue receiving the attention and support of Minister Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. for areas with great potential between the two Ministries of National Defense, such as: Maritime security and safety; cooperation between agencies and research institutes; logistics; military medicine; cooperation in search and rescue at sea; United Nations peacekeeping; defense industry. Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien also hopes that the leaders of the Philippine Ministry of National Defense will support events organized by Vietnam, especially activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 2nd Vietnam International Defense Exhibition in December 2024.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien expressed his impression of the development history and achievements of the Philippine Navy, as well as the professionalism of the officers and staff of the Philippine Navy; emphasizing that Vietnam and the Philippines are two neighboring countries sharing a maritime border, and both countries have common interests in ensuring maritime security and safety in the sea areas between the two countries in particular, and the sea areas in the region in general.
Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien highly appreciated the results of cooperation between the two Navies in recent times, notably activities such as: Exchange of delegations, regular contacts, effective maintenance of the Naval Consultation mechanism, exchanges between the two forces, exchange of situations, and coordination in supporting fishermen of the two countries in distress at sea. Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense always supports and creates favorable conditions for the Navies of the two countries in particular and the law enforcement forces of the two sides in general to increase exchanges and cooperation; at the same time, he suggested that the Navies of the two countries increase sharing of information and situations, timely support for fishermen in distress at sea, and actively contribute to maritime security and safety in the region.
